Going over in 3 weeks for AC Milan vs. Napoli, this is my first trip to Italy. Anything good to see in Milan? I've heard a lot of negatives about it being dull and uninteresting.
Yes, I've been a few times, AC are the foreign team l like to follow. I've also been to see Inter clinch the title when Jose was manager and Figo played his last game, Milan were away and we couldn't get tickets. First off these are not the type of ultras that sing and dance and wear football shirts like you get at the "yellow wall". Napoli are also absolute loons, so this could be quite tasty. Italian football's gone to the dogs over the last few years, especially at Milan, crowds are down and they're having one of their worst spells in history. Onto Milan, the grounds in a right shitehole, not much around it apart from a park. The centre of Milan is nice, big cathedral in the centre, expensive bars around there too. You can view the last supper at one of the churches but you have to book in advance. I was disappointed with Milan, you get the impression it's the fashion capital etc etc, plenty of graffiti like there is in most of Italy's cities. I much prefer Rome, l watched Lazio/Parma on my last visit there, possibly the worst game of football I've ever seen.
I just found cheap flights and booked them before realising it was Napoli, I know all about their reputation. The San Siro is one of those "must see" stadiums, in my opinion. Not expecting too much of an atmosphere though, it will be half empty.
Never been to the San Siro but I have been to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to watch Roma vs Lazio, next time you have the chance go to that, atmosphere's a bit tasty but brilliant, the football is another story, like watching a LJ team slow and ponderous and not very interesting at the best of times
Unfortunately due to the current circumstances in Italy, it's not that great. Both sets of Ultras are boycotting their games in Rome this season, and it looks to be continuing for a good while yet. I was hoping to see Juve on the Sunday against Lazio, but after the game I will have a 3 hour window to do a 2.5 hour journey in time for my flight. Risky.
I've never really been that interested in Italian football, but always had a soft spot for Juve. I need to reach 10 countries before the end of the season though
Have no real sympathies for any Italian teams due to their mix of corruption, cheating, boring football and general Italianess but if any I always prefer for Roma to win
That's my main reason as well, top quality footballer and the loyalty he's shown to his club is immensely impressive
Long walk from the turnstiles into the stadium itself where we were. Pretty sure we needed id to get in too. And the bars are very very expensive. Sit down in a cafe bar and watch them park up. Doesn't sound fun but it's hilarious. No insurance over there so they just bump their cars into any space, however small.
Went there with Malaga and as a away supporter you are placed right up in the gods with a terrible view and them stairs take a lot of climbing as their are hundreds of them!
Yeah, passport required to purchase a ticket before the game. I was under the impression it would be expensive, it doesn't come across as a cheap and cheerful place!
