For the first time in decades I'm not eagerly looking forward to the transfer window to see who we sign. I don't think we need anyone, and indeed I can't see how we can strengthen, bearing in mind our budget. I know we should always be on the lookout for players, but the squad we have, particularly the "spine" that I keep going on about, is so bloody good that I just can't imagine us being able to afford anyone better. I'm more worried about departures than arrivals. I'll be ecstatic if absolutely nothing changes. It's an absolute credit to the club management and staff that I simply can't see how we can improve on things within our budget. Well done to all concerned.
I'm not really looking forward to it. I think we are riding the crest of a wave at the moment: I am happy with the team, and only see the January transfer window as a time when unsuccessful but wealthier clubs can buy themselves out of a hole they've made for themselves - perhaps by exploiting our success and distracting some of our players. Like you, I would settle for a 'no changes' scenario.
I saw the post and thought you'd felt the urge to dress as a woman. That would have been two of us. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
we can and should always strengthen, indeed to not do so would be a folly and a backward step. strengthening however may take the guise of players signing contracts rather than lots of new ones arriving enjoy the ride!
What should the club do if a someone offered £5m for Hourihane, who will could well move on for free in the summer?
Sell. We signed him for £250,000. We've certainly enjoyed the value of that buy already. Like you say, he could well go for free in the summer. I don't think anyone will offer that much for a player with only a few months left on his contract though. Would love him to stay obviously but 5 mil would be too good to turn down.
january transfer window should be scrapped imo,too many times teams lose their better players and in turn lose any momentum they have..Summer transfers only then teams have to do battle with their squad for a full season.
I don't know enough about the finances to answer this properly. However, if all we do is discover players and sell them on for a huge profit, we are relying on a continuing supply of players to make this work. We also risk losing fans because "we always sell our best players". We should bend over backwards to keep this group. They're a great set of lads who as a team are close to bring the best we've ever seen at Oakwell.
You betcha! My bright red, backless cocktail dress with the thigh length split is a personal favourite. Provocative, yet stylish.
5 million.... Understand the reasoning. What if his intention is to actually stay. Then we've sold him. We've made plenty of dosh the last 12 months so I say we hold to the end of the season and if he leaves he goes with everyone's blessing. Losing CH in January could be catastrophic to our season. I remember us doing well in the championship previously and we lost almost our entire midfield in a couple of weeks. Alarm bells are here again. So we should stick rather than twist
I agree it should be scrapped if only to stop every bleedin footballers name put on here as a possible target or someone we should be looking at.
