thanks for putting that on JD

I am actually in tears after watching that and I am not ashamed to admit it. What a fantastic man, I had the honor to have met him many years ago and he is exactly what the video portrays him... he is a true legend.

Totally agree, that would be a deserved tribute to the great man.

To be fair this should have happened years ago whilst he was still with us.

It would never happen when he was still with us as he made it clear a fair few times he didn't want anything naming after him. Such a proud man.

We've got to consider that when making all these requests for tributes. What would Rimmo have wanted? From what I can gather he wouldn't have wanted to come to Oakwell and walk in the ground through the Norman Rimmington West Stand.

In spite of the occasion I must say that made me smile.... imagine the name plaques on the roof end a hundred feet up, all scaffolding removed, then someone says... "err, is that right?"

That would be fairly typical Barnsley. I've gone back and corrected it ........

    Made me smile as well.

it's a tricky one. i totally get why people are suggesting stands and statues and whatnot. but is it really appropriate to do something posthumously, which he wouldn't have wanted while he was alive? for me, the only answer is to ask his family what they think he would have wanted.

West Ham did it for Bobby Moore

I don't think there was any evidence at the time to suggest Bobby Moore wouldn't have wanted it though, which is kind of Marc's point, so I'm not sure what you mean?

If that is what his family want, then I don't see any problem. Their wishes must be respected and are paramount, though.

Not for us , not for him, but for future generations to remind them of a time before money became the 'be all and end all' of professional sport. Someone like Rimmo without some sort of physical reminder could become a forgotten figure, something that should never happen. I know it does not equate to the memorials for fallen soldiers , it would be stupid and crass to make a direct comparison, but people like him should be a role model for future generations of sportsmen and sportswomen and there is nothing wrong IMHO wiith commemorating and celebrating his life and achievements

PS A statue outside Oakwell could prompt kids in years to come to ask their dad who he was and why there is a statue to him

Just simply the fact that West Ham did it for Bobby Moore, that's all I mean.

A yes from me, if his family are in agreement.

    Would be a fitting tribute.

But again, you've totally missed Marc's point?

Newcastle did it for Robson and Shearer. We could go on.

Any permanent memorial has to be subtle and in keeping with the man. Rimmo would laugh at the idea of a statue, people get a bit carried away with sentiment.

People really need to stop saying what THEY want the club to do for Rimmo and leave it for the club to do the best they can by his familys wishes.

No one on here knows what Rimmo may have requested or what his family will want.

Everyone on here has good intentions but the best, most fitting most respectful tribute we can pay is putting in 100% effort to what his family want for it.

The club have announced what his family want for him over the next week so lets back that 100% and stop trying to get things going that may not be wanted.

    Aye.

Cos rimmo was really going to stand in front of everyone and say he would feel **** if we didn't build a statue or something.

He may have been straight john bull with things he said but I doubt anyone would refuse something of that nature if offered.

I don't recall anyone on this bbs being appointed his spokesman either
