Virtually identical challenge to that of Robbo

Virtually identical challenge to Robbo's in Burnley v Sunderland game resulted in a penalty for Burnley but not even a yellow card for the Sunderland defender. I think we've had some lousy luck with refereeing decisions this season.

 

Just seen that for the first time. Agreed, baffled by the level of inconsistency referees show.

Seem to recall Robbo giving away a penalty earlier in the season (QPR?) that was exactly the same as yesterday and he was only booked (if memory serves).

 

I'm baffled as to why Hecky said he had no complaints with the decision. As you say it usually results in either a yellow or nothing at all, the penalty is deemed sufficient punishment. But no, not that twonk of a ref. Hecky had no reason to agree with it, he could have just said nothing of the matter.

 

I'm wondering if Roberts is carrying a slight strain and would not have played on Monday in any case.

It appears to be our policy

 

He was holding his hamstring quite early on yesterday, Adam Jackson was even warming up, i feared the worst. Then a member of our coaching staff wandered around to the back of our goal and sat with the ball boys for a couple of minutes until what appeared to look like Roberts signalling to him that he was okay.

 

Suppose the good thing is he's suspended for a game which is being played only 48 hours after, a rest might do him good.

 

I reckon that's a big part of the reason for not appealing. He looked to be carrying a knock anyway and a rest only a couple of days later won't do him any harm.

 

Yeah, that's the incident I was thinking about.

Maybe so JD. The only problem I see with simply accepting it though is if later in the season he gets another red, doesn't it incur an extra game ban with it being a second dismissal. Could prove costly further down the line.

 

I think you're right. That and it shows referees that we are a soft touch. In future matches they may send a Barnsley player off when they have a doubt because they know we never appeal decisions and if we never appeal then their (the refs) reputation remains intact even after a bad decision

 

Isn't there also the risk that if we DID appeal, and the F.A. decide that the appeal was frivolous then they can also extend the length of his ban?

And knowing how the F.A. like to defend and protect their referee's, I wouldn't put it past them...

 

In order to extend a ban they have to judge that the appeal has absolutely no basis whatsoever and is being made purely to postpone the ban by a day or two to let the player play in a key match but if there is any doubt then the rules state that no additional games would be added
