Me too. Just shows what a superb shot it was. Straight down the middle but hit so well that the keeper had no chance
he had a few goes earlier on in game ,Barnsley must have identified the keeper as a habit of being out of his goal, shot ?, lob ?, who knows lets call it a shlob!
I call it a lob because it was allowed to bounce once then lifted i.e. "Lobbed" over the goalkeeper's head.
But he smashed it in! Let's call it an assisted lob, or a lob with attitude maybe? Either way the whole move was sublime. James Bree's throw was accurate over some distance, finding a man who could do something with it (hardly ever happens with our throw ins). Adam Armstrong's quick control and then perfectly weighted pass to the skipper was superb. Conor took one touch and hit it HARD on the volley. It was, in short, a GREAT goal!
I like this feature. But one of the things I usually like about it is the sound of the ball hitting the net. No disrespect to you Matt of course as I always listen to the goals in the full match replays solely for your reaction. But I like the raw sounds from these goal cam ones. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
Great goal superbly struck and brilliantly created, but NOT a volley. A volley is a direct connection with no initial bounce
I take your point, like Darren Barnard's against Hudds crossed to him and he hit it without the ball touching the ground. It's a moot point though because Conor teed it up himself yesterday and hit it cleanly so you COULD call it a volley. It wasn't a scooped half volley, and it was too hard for a lob. Doesn't matter though does it. In the words of the great Bing Crosby "....and it went straight down the middle". Keeper should have got up and finger tipped it over but thank goodness he didn't.
True, but I still stand by my description at the time in spite of the obvious power as it soared over the keeper's head due to his slightly poor positioning of which Conor was fully aware. Great goal, great player, great win, great team!!!
As an ex keeper I'm an expert on lobs, as I've been beaten by loads of them in my time. A lob beats the keeper all ends up by passing way over his head in such a way that it's physically impossible to get anywhere near it, let alone save it. Conor's shot bet the keeper by power, as it was almost past him as he stuck his hands up to save it. He actually got fingertips to it - if he'd not cut his nails the day before he would have saved it. Also, if you watch the replay again (I've watched it 3428 times) you see the keeper is slightly on the wrong foot as he takes off. That's indicative of a shot which is unexpected and/or very powerful. It was a brilliant powerful dipping shot. A beauty of a goal.
Changed me mind on this lads n lasses - it was an explosive half-volley and it's my goal of 2017 so far
Hee hee, you'd almost convinced me it was a lob. I'll settle for a SLOB - a cross between a shot and a lob.
