When is his contract up?

And btw the way the club has let the contracts tick down on our best players is a joke.

They can't make players sign new contracts.

I'm sure if our key players had wanted to sign new contracts they would have done. We can't force them

How would you force them into signing new contracts?

Or would you have sold them last year - before we got promoted.

You should probably apply for a job at Oakwell.

I think we should have offered both Conor and Winnall new contract extensions after their first year. Was alwYs a risk leaving it 2 seasons. I suppose for all we know they may have done, but I don't see why neither would have signed an extension at that time

Why not offer a million, or two, to re-sign. It would cost more to replace him. May be the wage structure would not allow it.

But then we wouldn't have had them both for two more years on the peanuts they originally will have signed for. I totally agree with you but that might be the thinking of the club. But it's come back to bite us in the ass now we could lose them both for nothing and we have a period of uncertainty around.

Everyone I speak to say how come Barnsley's let their contracts run down. An extra few quid for extending contracts would have been peanuts compared to what we could sell them for.

this transfer policy falls down if we don't tie up contracts. I get what the club says that they have got us where we are but we can't let every player go for nowt just because the have done well or got us in a good league position.

in future club needs to sort this and sort out contracts early if it's obvious players are gonna be decent

We could be sat on a damn sight more if they inexplicably get us promoted to the Premier league this season.

Stranger things have happened.

It is obviously in the club's best interests to get its top players to sign long contracts. Those in charge at the club know this; they are not stupid. Unfortunately, however, it is not in the best interests of those players or their agents for this to happen, and they obviously know that. Those in charge at Oakwell have made it crystal clear on a number of occasions that they would love Hourihane, in particular, and also Winnall and others, to sign new, improved deals. Sadly for us, the players probably feel they have nothing at all to gain by doing so, and who can blame them for this attitude? This does not mean that none will re-sign for us. Hammill did, didn't he?

Some may not like this, but if players don't want to sign longer contracts especially when we are one of the top 10 clubs in the championship (the league does not lie) then there becoming Billy Big ******'s, theres only 1 that I think could make it in the pemier league (Conner) the rest are kidding them self's. Only time will tell but thats my opinion.
I only hope we can keep the lot.

I'm pretty sure it's part of our policy that players are signed on a max 2 to 3 years so if due to serious injury or a player not working out then we are not stuck with a player we don't want. We can't have it both ways if a player works out well for us then as his contract runs out it becomes his choice. No one knew for definite that when we signed hourihane winnall scowen would turn out so well when we signed them.

You'll all find your points raised and answered here, before a ball was even kicked this season. I'm not aware that owt's changed, 'cept we've got even better this last few months, which means Patrick words are now likely more, not less, certain.

When it takes a cabbage like me to point out the blummin obvious, then we really are in bother...

Any of them could move to a 'worse' club - villa, forest, blues, qpr etc - and be on more money. A lot more money. Might not get to the premier league, but they'd be paid a lot more for playing where they are.
