He's been superb in my opinion. He's only 19 remember but has certainly grown into a man over the last 6 months . I think he could have done with a rest today though .
We need to tie this one up. If Conor decides to move on we will need all the quality midfield strength that we can get.
This is potentially a multiple party negotiation. Morsy obviously hasn't agreed terms with Barnsley, and may be looking for something which stretches or breaks our wage structure. It is possible that other clubs will be interested in him too, and prepared to pay him more than we can, so we shouldn't assume it is us or Wigan. Selling him to another club may work for Wigan too as I imagine the agreed fee is lower than his current market value. So the decision to play yesterday may have been about getting him in the shop window.
That will play a part in it. Wigan have to sell to us for a cheap price compared to what he's now worth thanks to his time with us which has obviously increased his value. They can't ask for more money off us so they will hope a bigger club comes in, offers more money and offers Sam better wages so he doesn't join us.
It depends on the details of how the deal was written . If it was agreed that Wigan would sell to Barnsley for a particular figure , wouldn't that be considered as a contract ?
I reckon his agent will be touting him round clubs saying "Wigan are obliged to accept a bid of £X from barnsley, so they'll accept any bid above this from you". Meanwhile Sam will have been told to sit tight at Wigan for a couple of weeks and accept our offer if nothing better comes in.
Doesn't feel like the deal will get done to me. Josh is more than capable. We'll be reyt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Doubtful tbh. An agreement had been signed Wigan can do nothing about a bidding war , It's up to Morsy now .
Wigan are free to accept any other bids though. So if the figure they have agreed with us is low then his agent might be letting other clubs know in the hope that they will make the same transfer bid but offer more in wages. There can't be a bidding war over the fee, but there can over wages. If he doesn't come here I reckon it will be because he goes somewhere else. I can't see him staying at Wigan.
You said agent can ask clubs to up offer. That would be detrimental to an agent as the lower the fee the more can be offered in wages and agents fees.
No, I wasn't saying the agent could manufacture a bidding war. I was saying that the agent could go to say Birmingham and say "Wigan are contractually obliged to accept a bid of £100,000 from Barnsley, so if you offer £100,001 then your offer will be accepted." By making other clubs aware that a bid at a certain level (which I assume is quite low) is guaranteed to be accepted he might be able to attract clubs who are willing to offer higher wages than us.
There's nothing to stop that but it would be a bit silly when Wigan have said well part with him for x amount for a club to offer more. All the other club have to do is match the offer and entice the player with personal terms.
