I get that and I would love nothing than to spend the Stones and Mawson money on retaining and extending the contracts of Sam , Conor , Robbo , Marley and Josh to push us on , but the signs are that we are probably going to lose them in the summer . The players seem to be saying all the usual politically correct stuff like ' id love to stay BUT we'll have to wait and see' . The very same players that have been recruited by the transfer policy that has served us so well . Its Stick or twist time !
I agree with your initial stick rigidly to the policy, I just don't think a large portion of barnsley fans will accept what comes with that which will be inevitably low points at times and I don't want hecky to suffer being hounded out and booed like previous managers.
Good post mate... Hecky said one of the reasons why he dint want players to go, cos replacements don't grow on trees... especially with our budget, don't what to, but may have to go back to 6 loans short term fix again.
It will be interesting to see how it will go in the summer, I haven't a clue just got to trust them and hope it wasn't luck when we signed hourihane etc and the hammill factor of last year. The signings of Mcdonald, Bradshaw and Yiadom show that we may be on to something with our recruitment policy.
I agree with this to an extent. If you watched Hecky's interview the warning was there that these players don't grow on trees. If we sell the team from under him, then he will be gone sooner than we may have hoped. That's being a Barnsley fan. 52 years old. 42 years watching.
As much as I would want to keep hold of the current out of contract players some of them might simply want a change of scenery or direction or even want to live somewhere else in the country . It might not always be down to money. There's so many different facets to retaining or losing a player . That's why the scouting and recruitment policy must be maintained.
Totally knackered his own career up....did ok for us and turned down a contract offer for a trial at Leeds...didn't get on , only played 13 professional games since then.
Didn't he just stop turning up? I remember Simon Davey giving an interview at the time and when he was asked where Werling was, he said something down the lines of, 'good question'. Hadn't he taken himself off home for Christmas or something? What's stranger still is that Davey then signed him at Darlington I believe, and he wasn't there long either. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
We can't keep finding good players because our luck will run out sooner or later. Some of our most recent signings like Kpekawa and Lee haven't done it yet. Lose the spine of this team either this month or at the end of the season and we'd be playing massively on the love Hecky has for the club for him to want to continue when he'd have to hope the next rebuild job is just as good to help him reach his dream of reaching the top flight.
Possibly so , but the club has reiterated that they will not change their policy of recruiting any player under the age of 26 under any circumstances . Hopefully I'm wrong but personally I think it's going to be a re-building job . The Sam Morsy situation seems to confirm that we won't change our wage structure either which doesn't bode well for keeping the likes of Conor, Sam etc .
