Never mind what colour jackets you wear, why don't you ever use the cycle lanes that have been added to the highway instead of constantly slaloming In and out of cars who pay tax to use said roads?????????
4 things. Why are cars parked in those cycle lanes so we have to swerve in and out. I pay tax on two cars so I'm allowed to use the roads twice as much as you. Car tax is not car tax, it's pollution tax based on the amount of CO2 your vehicle emits. It has nothing to do with roads. Every cyclist on a bike is someone not in a vehicle making the traffic jam in front of you even bigger.
Apart from Rosco picking apart every line of drivel you've just spouted, where are these cycle lanes you speak of?
Not a cyclist but just wanted to point out: Road Tax was abolished in the 1930s . As mentioned, Vehicle Excise Duty is related to the emissions a car produces. Low emission vehicles are exempt. Bikes are fairly low I understand If you're arguing about maintenance of the roads then it's mostly council tax that pays for this. VED goes to the treasury not the highways agency. 87% of British Cycling members own a car
Just another ignorant rant against cyclists from someone who has read about us in the Mail or some other useless rag, bless.........hope he enjoys school this week and doesn't have problems with his homework......
Interesting article about how car tax is changing from April this year: http://home.bt.com/lifestyle/money/...it-costs-11364136303340#.WHlb7L8ah-Y.facebook
How many cyclists have insurance? Genuine question as a few years back a kid on a bike ran into me whilst I was stationery, doing about £800 damage to my car (new wing and respray). I picked him up and made sure he was okay. He couldn't remember his name or where he lived. I set off to follow him home but he chucked his bike over a fence and had it away like a good'un. I was left to have repairs done to car at my own expense. Whether you are a cyclist or not it just doesn't seem right.
do what I do and ride on the path, oh and car drivers using those little flashy yellow things on the side of you vehicle on the odd occasion to give road users a clue might help
A particular beef of mine...I'd say at least 50% of drivers are guilty...but I'd say cyclists are far worse at failing to let anyone know WTF they intend to do. I drive, I cycle....There's plenty of numpties in both camps.
Understand the point you make to be fair. But where does liability start and end? In particular as there is no legal minimum age for riding a bike. Do you treat a 10 year old on a bike riding their bike as a "toy" the same as someone who commutes daily for work? Do both need insurance? Kids on scooters. What about pedestrians? Especially in this era of looking at your smartphone rather than where you're going, would they be liable and need insurance in case they stepped out and caused a cyclist to fall and get injured, or swerve into a car? All hypothetical I know. And I'd think there is statistically more chance of an uninsured driver causing damage to a cyclist. I don't disagree with your argument in truth. I'm sure the easiest way though is for all road users to chill out a bit and give each other the respect they deserve. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
You DON'T pay tax to use the roads, it's vehicle excise duty you numpty. Beside which I have a car and I DO pay VED. Cycle lanes/paths are a joke and make cycling more dangerous. They are OPTIONAL and cyclists have every right to use the road. In fact car drivers DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT to use the roads. They are ALLOWED to use them under certain strict conditions;- 1. Driving license (half the drivers on the road should have them taken away) 2. A properly maintained and road-worthy vehicle (how many cars do you see every day with lights not working?) 3. Insurance (how many uninsured drivers are estimated to be on our roads?) 4. Possession of a Vehicle Registration Document 5. Vehicle excise duty. 6. The driver must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Oh and by the way how many times do you exceed the speed limits on a daily basis? How often do you use your mobile while driving? Remember also that each cyclist you see on the road has reduced traffic congestion by one car and is thus helping you. Don't be such a tw*t.
I've had a hgv licence since I was 18 and drove artics for a good few years and its the indicating thing that makes my 5h1t itch. the thing I hate most about road cycling is the state of the roads, not just the ball breaking potholes that you have to ride well into the carriageway to avoid but the various heights of manholes, drains and gullys that's just a minor bump in a car but is like the bigdipper on the bike
A lot of cycle farcilities (delipberate spelling) have worse surfaces than the roads. Also why should cyclists be forced to use paths that make you stop and give way to a side road? When you're travelling on the major road, you should have priority, cycle routes take that away and relegate you to the lowest of the low. It's just rubbish.
