Agreed. That's a laughable figure. Either 5m plus now, or he walks at the season end and I would be the first to shake his hand and thank him wherever he goes. Even better if we can persuade him to stay but if 28 grand a week is a real deal, I can't expect him to stay to be honest. Why do we need piffling amounts now? It's splitting the fan base and doing untold damage for the sake of grabbing a few bob.
It was 1 million last week then he had a medical with wednesday then he didn't. Then he was in club shop instead of the coach to fulham. Then he was at fulham..... Then today in star he has told Wendy's and villa he is in no rush to leave barnsley it's hard to keep up
CONOR HOURIHANE has warned transfer-window suitors that he is in no rush to quit Barnsley. The Ireland hopeful is at the centre of a tug-of-war between Championship big guns Aston Villa and *Sheffield Wednesday — and the Owls have already had a £1.25million bid rejected by the Tykes. Conor Hourihane would earn an incredible £28,000-a-week at Aston Villa Villa are prepared to hand Hourihane a deal worth £28,000-a-week — four times what he is on at Oakwell — but the Barnsley captain, 25, insists he remains open-minded on his future. The Cork-born midfielder’s current agreement runs out in June and he has held talks with the Barnsley board about a new contract. Hourihane, who leads out the Tykes in tonight’s FA Cup third round replay at home to Blackpool, revealed: “Those discussions are ongoing. “Barnsley have been good to me and I feel I have been good to them. “It is up to the club to see how far they want to push it. I’m open-minded. It would be silly not to be. “It will come to a conclusion when it needs to but, first and foremost, we need to keep winning games, both in the Championship and the Cup.”
He has less than six months left on his contract - we are not in a position to call the shots. The club - and by this I do not mean Linton Brown - have seriously ballsed up on this one.
My reading of the above is that he would accept less than Villa are offering to stay with us. Can we not offer him a contract on a wage which is sustainable whilst we are a championship club, perhaps with some form of release clause if we go down and maybe a release clause if a premiership club comes in with a bid above a certain level?
Interesting to see how this pans out - given PC's publically stated love for Hourihane. There's a hint there like you say that the door isn't totally closed on him staying Sent from the darkest recesses of a poisoned mind.
Thats one possible reading of it. The other is that he is doing both himself and the club a favour by playing hard to get - the exact opposite of Winnall, I also think he wants to play in the Prem more than he wants the extra money at the moment. I think if someone like West Brom came in for him he would be gone like a shot but neither Villa or the Fowls are good bets for the prem next year, and he may well be better off staying with us as clearly our best player and hope to get a move in the summer, or even get a better contract from us with a sell clause to a prem club
I have no reason to believe Conor is a bullshitter so I believe there is (no matter how small it may seem) a chance he will sign up for us for longer. I wonder what figures have been spoke about with us.....20k maybe? He cannot be replaced for a million a year that's for sure. 20k on a four year contract would be an absolute steal and get fans back onside after last week. Yes it would break our wage structure but anyone close to him ability wise is going to cost more in a transfer fee, agent fees, signing on fee and wages for duration of a contract. He's well on his wage to being a legend for us. He realises what a great fit the club and himself have been for eachother. Wearing the armband means something.
Personally I would use every penny of the winnall money to get him signed up to a new contract - with a release clause for a premier league club. You have to speculate to accumulate as they say.
Unlike Winnall , Conor deserves to play on a bigger stage than we can provide at the moment . Don't get me wrong I would love him to stay , but if he gets a move to the premiership , good luck to the lad .
Loose your best players. Drop to bottom loose champoinship money 8 million quated Worth keeping players in order to stop up or squeze into playoffs.
Maybe we should take the Stones/Holgate/Mawson/Winnall transfer money, book a flight to Vegas and stick it all on Red. 5-6 wins and we will have enough to fund a proper crack at promotion against the big spenders...
Off to Villa after Sky game more than likely, unless others join the party. Would be nice to see a Prem club purrin an offer.

I agree but there doesn't seem to be a lot we can do about it . Unfortunately the ship with the new contracts on board has sailed into the sunset .
Considering the number of clubs who are allrgedly interested, we might have some, albeit minimal power. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
