We have to look to the future, Conor will be gone in a week.
Who can fill his boots both as player and captain?

    Is Moncur good enough?

Do we need to buy or at least loan in this window?

Could Williams do the job, or even Yiadom (who seems to be able to play anywhere lol)

    Who would captain the side?

I'd like to see Roberts in that role

Is it Josh Morris at S****horpe? Looks a very good player, scores goals, not sure exactly what his position is mind. I think George Moncur could probably develop into a player capable of doing Hourihane's attacking elements, but it'd be a mighty ask for him to also pick up the all round nature of CH's game. Either way we would need another centre midfielder just for cover, regardless of whether they are a replacement for Hourihane or not.

As regards captain, Roberts for me. But until we actually sell Connor, let's not be hasty. Rescruitment is essential regardless of him going though, we are so short on numbers if injuries kick in again. But he's still our player and captain currently, let's remember!

The subject is fine, but to say Conor will be gone this week is pure speculation. Similar to the thread that didn't include him in the forecasted team to play Leeds.
    Kindly desist, it's getting boring.

Personally would like to see Hammill playing regularly - if he were I reckon he could be a good shout for captain from what I've seen.

I'd like to see Scowen as captain personally.

How to replace the irreplaceable? Agree with Scowen, he's a fighter.

I'd love us to go get Bradley Dack I think he could be a brilliant Box to Box midfielder with the right coaching. Scowen for captain

Is Dack something you've heard about, or just wishful thinking? Seems to have gone off the boil this season, but clearly very talented. Wouldn't say no.

Wishful thinking but I also feel he fits perfectly into our philosophy

From what I've seen of Moncur I'm not convinced that he can play in a two man midfield. His attributes seem to be close control, dribbling and shooting from range. Big ask for him to compete physically at Championship level at the moment in my opinion. Hopefully, this is something he and the coaches are working on. Hourihane was a similar type during the 2014-2015 season and look at how he's developed - it is possible I suppose.

Angus for captain he will be a £10m defender in 12 months time. Moncur and Williams can be good enough if they want to be, apart from his initial goal scoring exploits when Connor joined us he wasn't any where near the player is now its down to coaching, talent and desire. The coaching is the same, they undoubtedly have the talent.

Can't believe how well Mcdonald has stepped into Maswon's shoes. Dare I say it I think he's looked more assured than Roberts of late. Credit once again must go to the club for identifying him.

Was going to post something similar.

Conor's eventual replacement won't be as good as Conor currently is now. When we signed this young Irish lad from Plymouth hardly any (if any at all) of us would have believed just how good and important he would end up being.

Recruiting Watkins, Scowen, Hourihane, Mawson, Roberts, Davies and McDonald hasn't been fluke. Our scouts know what to look for, what attributes are inherent and what can be coached.

I'm genuinely excited whenever we sign someone now. As I'm confident that they'll just keep getting better. Won't happen every time but I bet in 2 or 3 years we'll all be talking about the next "irreplaceable" group of players bigger clubs want to swoop on.

If it happens that we do indeed lose Conor, then Spurs are doing okay with the keeper as skipper, I`d give it to Davies think he will be here quite a while.

Expecting Stevie Mallan to sign from St Mirren soon unless something's gone wrong with the deal. Obviously won't be as good as Conor, at least straight away, but I'm assuming he's intended to be the replacement.

Captain wise, probably Scowen. Maybe Roberts, but I think I'd rather he concentrate on defending.

I think it's Stevie Mallan too.
He's very highly rated, free kick/set piece specialist.
St Mirren are expecting to lose him soon.
Hasn't he been seen being shown around the club ?

Totally agree. He's both mobile & good in the air & not bad with the ball at his feet too.
