If Conor was willing to sign a 12 month extension on his current deal but asked for a £2.5M release that kicked in in the summer would you take it ?
Apparently we've refused to do any more business with SWFC due to them tapping up Winnall. Quite right too.
But he could do that anyway. There's nothing stopping him, everybody would be delighted. And he'd probably be able to wangle a decent chunk of that £2.5m as a signing on fee.
Maybe, maybe not. I still believe the club when they say that they don't need to sell. If a player wants to go, then fair enough - once they've said they want to go somewhere then we'll try and get the best money we can. £3m is getting close to 'too good to turn down', but I don't think it's quite there - my view is that if Villa offered that then we'd still be asking Conor whether or not he was interested rather than pushing him out. Who knows, maybe he'd be interested in staying and finishing the job here. Bree is a bit different because he's not a key part of the team in the same way Hourihane is - if we can get serious money plus a sell on clause then now is definitely the time to sell. Then again, if he wanted to sign a new three or four year contract I still think the club would be interested.
He won't be pushed out at all, and neither should he. The Club might accept a bid and give Villa permission to speak to him. I've got absolutely no doubt in my mind that everybody at the Club wants him to stay.
Oh yeh, that was me. I rang Villa after a few shandies, pretending to be the new chief exec. You're welcome...
Villa just seems a silly and short sighted move that club is a mess and he deserves a crack at the prem. no doubt in my mind a proper prem team would take a punt on him in the summer.
To be fair he gets quite a lot right about us. Was right about Winnall (though not the fee), Morsy deal issues plus a number of others last season.
We shouldn't be wanting to help Sheffield United get promoted either but Nixon said today we wanted to loan them Moncur but can't because of the two emergency loans new rule.
I did wonder, in the way this has been handled by both Conor and Hecky, if they are both trying to advertise the fact that he could be available at the right price for the club and the right wages for the player. it almost sounds as though it's, 'come on chaps,' if he's thinking of signing for Villa, where are you other clubs, including some in the premiership? I think that, if we get a realistic bid, he could be on his way. £3 million is the least he is worth. Trouble is that there seems little sign of a bidding war, but perhaps that is why Hecky and Conor and 'advertising' the matter as they are.
The longer this drags on the more I think we are waiting until deadline day to see how many points off the play offs we are, and could it be a realistic proposition? Win at Rotherham and potentially 1 point off then it would be crazy not to gamble the odd million away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
