Whoever they are, they'll have to go some to match the application, fitness and never-say-die attitude of the current squad of players and it won't be easy for them. Time and again, these lads have done our club proud, even when others have doubted them. I'll be bitterly disappointed if Conor Hourihane & James Bree follow Sam Winnall out of the door. They've been three of my favourites (especially Conor), particularly this season, amongst a squad of special players. It certainly won't be easy to replace them. But, as yet, I don't know who will be coming into the club. If you believe comments like "done deal" and "trust me", it's obvious some are convinced they do. It never ceases to amaze me how many transfer deals are done at the very end of a transfer window. It may well transpire we'll be doing exactly that. Although with a full league programme next Tuesday, it could be a bit problematic.
I trust the club, and the management to get it right Kev. What a whirlwind 18 months. The last 12 as good as I can remember as a fan. It's just a shame some fans are trying to taint the memories. Players will always come and go.
Well, Gethin Jones was a fantastic start. Assured, fit, and did you see how he was first to congratulate Kent, as if he'd been here forever/?
i suspect we'll move early for players that would have been summer targets - whoever they are. Like you said they've big boots to fill - fingers crossed and all that.
I trust them, too, old mate. The club's earned that respect from me for their actions which have resulted in moving us from the bottom of Division 1 just over a year ago to where we are now.
It's part and parcel of been a Barnsley fan players leaving for bigger clubs. I was angry and dissapointed in winnall.the way he forced the move his agent leaked the pictures on rimmos day all very disrespectful. I don't begrudge connor or james bree their big moves and the will always get a good reception from me at oakwell just hope we get a good deal for them financially. I have enjoyed watching them both develop as players and thas got to be one of the best things about been a barnsley fan watching conor turn from a 300k league 2 player and who some joker said couldnt play in a two man midfield. To one of if not the best midfielder in the championship. And bree from a accademy talent to a class championship defender who can go all the way to the top.
Not a chance. He'll be on 10k plus per week. Bristol are throwing serious cash around. Not that you'd know it tho.....
Not a clue, but imho it'll give us a big clue as to where the hierarchy believe we are headed. This current crop do not know when they are beaten, and even against better teams like Fulham & Newcastle they've never given up - that must stem from Heckingbottom, who's lost his assistant coach of last season, the majority of our play-off final squad and is working without a chief exec, and still managed to get us to 8th in a league awash with money. Admittedly it looks like he's replaced the coach as smartly as possible. I think it's quite telling from his mentions of how it would be nice not to take steps back and how much better we have to be with contracts where he'd like us to be heading - this isn't me saying we should be signing £1m + players and all that - we can't, but what we can do is back him now with signings and secure down Watkins, Scowen, Roberts etc BEFORE they have 10 minutes left on their contracts - if we don't then let's see how long being a fan keeps Hecky in post. If the hierarchy throw away what we have now in terms of personnel, spirit and good feeling around the club then they deserve all they get.
The hierarchy are already getting stick and we're eighth in the Championship after beating Leeds United just two days ago.
On this board tonight, for example. And last week when it was a 'done deal' that Hourihane was signing for Sheffield Wednesday for £1.2M. And the week before when Sam Winnall signed for Wednesday.
Not seen much stick tbf, other than Nudger's repetitive stuff but then again I don't read everything. I just sense some frustration at what looks like a superb situation could be lost. We are carrying a lot of momentum at the minute, be a shame if we bring that to a halt ourselves. Anyway, let's see what happens.
As I say, I'm not particularly sensing much strong 'anger' - just a bit of regret at losing quality players, and the situation of those departures. I can't see Hourihane especially being instantly replaced - it might mean a change in tactics to accommodate his loss, whilst we develop the new lads.
