19 years old, 65 appearances, out of contract & a couple of million in the bank + clauses for a right back. Doesn't feel too bad to me... Villa have took a punt on his potential - hence the 4.5 year deal. We're never going to be in that position to gamble like that & I think it's a position we can fill in the short term. Good luck James, all the best.
I think it's good business as well. I'm yet to be convinced with Bree. He'll be missed the least and is easier to replace.
If we're selecting players to leave because we can replace and/or their contract's up soon so we can get some coin in to then sort contracts out for the likes of Scowen, Roberts, Davies etc to build a solid base for the next few seasons then in the long term I think that's right - the trick is to not be in this sort of position re contracts running down again. Players engineering a move notwithstanding.
I don't think anyone could begrudge these lads that's got us to 8th in championship moving on to clubs that pay fortunes in wages. They deserve it Bree as contributed in moving the club forward, the club have contributed in getting him to a club that can pay him life changing wages, and we've got a few quid to reinvest, it's a success story as far as the plan goes.
As usual in these situations, there's confusion between those reporting just the initial fee and others the potential total value of the transfer.
Agreed. I'd also blow serious coin on Villa being in this division for a couple of years at least. Let's hope we're still there too.
I would hope even the initial cash fee would be towards £3-3.5m rather than £2m. Maybe that's ambitous but he's a very solid, dynamic right back already, never mind his future potential.
I don't have any criticism for the Club with the deals made so far. Surely we have to wait until the end of this window to see our playing staff situation before throwing our collective teddies out of the cot. We always knew the principles on which the model was built and I've no truck whatsoever with Bree or Conor (assuming he goes) for moving on after wonderful service. Doesn't mean I necessarily think they've made the right choice!
I'm looking forward to the Hemmsy meltdown if Hourihane moves to the same club as Bree but for more cash.
The business model was for 1-2 maybe per window to be sold on for profit. It's at two already and not likely to be finished with. We said we don't have to sell and yet we have been doing. We've said we would only sell if we had replacements lined up, so we will see what happens before the weekend where anything less than a win is points dropped.
"the business model" was based around playing in league one, with league one players earning league one wages. we've ****ced it right royally up by getting promoted !!
