Patrick Cryne is the best thing to happen to BFC since the Rev T Preedy

Many clubs out there right here right now are totally in awe and jealous of Barnsley Football club.... and that is so apparent in many of our neighbouring clubs and their fickle fans. We ride the waves and sometimes dip in the water a bit but we always seem to come back up and get on with it. The transfer window has had almost all of us having kittens about our future, Yet we seem to be coping and moving on. We are blessed with a bloke called Paul Heckingbottom and I so hope he remains with us for a good few more seasons. But the vision for our future was seen by a bloke called Patrick Cryne. We may still have a few more stormy waters to navigate and afew curved balls to dodge.... but right now I feel the club that I have loved from a 6 year old kid, a club that has given me such fabulous memories of very high stages ....is in fantastic shape. All of us have bitter sweet memories of the past.... but I think the sweet outweigh the bitter ones. In recent times we took out Man Utd in the FA cup... we beat Liverpool at Anfield in the cup... then Chelski... we have been to Wembley new and Old and the Millenium in Cardiff... and this last year we lifted a Challenge cup and won the play - offs.... my chest almost exploded with pride at all those occasions. Yer know what guys .... we have more much more to come ...... and I for one am grateful for it all.

Well said mate. Couldn't agree more. There have been bad times - a couple of relegations and the desperate times when we went into administration but the good times outweigh the bad.

    Clint Marcelle's goal against Bradford.
    Darren Barnard's against Huddersfield
    4-0 at Birmingham (2000 playoffs)
Glavin scoring after running the length of the Elland Rd pitch.
    Aylott's goal against City
    Neil Redfearn's many goals
Penalty shoot out at the Millennium
    Conor's strike last week
The destruction of Wallsall in the playoffs last year
And of course, Hammill's wonder goal against Millwall at Wembley

I could go on. Wonderful memories.

    totally matey

there are many clubs out there who have not had anywhere close to the amount of sunshine that we have had in their supporting lives.... some even nowt. we are well in credit with sunshine in our supporting account no doubt about it.

Very well said he has done a top job scince saving us. Very great full even just for the plan of the young hungry players and watching them develop as opposed to jeorney men.

57 years a Red and you`re right some amazing times, never had tears like the day against Bradford though.

Patrick`s love for this club has ensured he will not put the future of this club in danger, the debt we owe is beyond words.

John Dennis's tenure was miles better.

Apart from the last twelve months Cryne's tenure has been average to downright abysmal.

Well the 2006 play off final win was helluva lot more than average, I for one was ecstatic and I don't get ecstatic by average. I didn't enjoy watching my club go into administration during the Dennis era and the total misery that ensued until PC took the reins.

A bit simplistic that, what abart the guy who fetched in Johnny Evans and Barrie Thomas when we were bottom of Div 4. From the Rev upto me starting to watch em in the 60`s I couldn`t tell you who ran the club.

That was John Dennis's father, Ernest, who had a whole sale greengrocer's business on Midland Street, next to the bus station. He and lawyer, Geoff Buckle, offered to put some money into the club on the proviso that the long-standing chairman of the time, Joe Richards, who was also President of the Football League, would agree to relinquish his position. Richards had been unpopular with fans. By the way, I think Patrick Cryne has done a marvellous job, and the club's fortunes improved significantly when he appeared to become far more involved in the day-to-day running of things.

Me neither. I bet you enjoyed promotion to the premiership, being in the premiership and getting to Wembley for the first time in the biggest game in club football in the world. I know I did.

Everyone makes mistakes. Cryne has made more than his fair share.

Everyone makes mistakes cryne has done more good than he has bad. And his intentions have always been good and for the best interests of the club.

    WTF.
John Dennis would have buried this club .
No one wanted the club and the only people who wanted was a speculative conglomerate fronted by an ex councillor who clearly stated he'd bought it for an investment for his grandchildrens future .
Cryne wrestled it away from that obvious obliteration and put the foundations down to rebuild .
The fact we spent many of the ensuing years in second tier is down to good management and investment from the Crynes .
Most clubs spend many years in the doldrums after such experiences or like Leicester ,Wednesday and Leeds cheat their debtors and invest invisible money to try and buy success.
We have done neither of these things but fine everything the right way and moaning ungrateful people like you would see this club lose its sole.

But some aren't are they. John Dennis was out of his depth good job he still isn't here or we wouldn't be in the championship that's for sure

We did cheat debtors. That's why Globe Coaches won't do business with us. Cryne could have got his hands on the club before Doyle did. He chose not to. That was a mistake. He could have saved about £5m. I'm not pillorying him for it as I say all chairmen make mistakes - John Dennis certainly did. However, Dennis's tenure was more enjoyable than Cryne's has been. To say that Cryne is the best thing to ever happen to the club is more than a little hyperbole from the OP but that is to be expected.

Stop being so self righteous by the way.

His tenure was a similar length to Cryne's and more successful. You have no idea where would be if Dennis was still chairman. Neither do I.
