I was hugely disappointed with the winnall deal. Conor and bree, somewhat more accepting. Whilst I still think letting him go to Wednesday was poor, even the winnall deal makes some sense. In the cold light of day, we have always been a selling club, and need to remain to be so. We might have some cash in the bank - stones, mawson, bree, Hourihane, winnall - but even if there were no transfer fees going out, it'd soon be used up with wages and so on. PC has propped us up to the tune of millions annually. We've spent on mowatt, are trying to commit players to new higher paid deals; I doubt the 'millions' in the bank are actually that much when all is considered.

We are where we are in the food chain. We have to be accepting of that. Players will come and go and whenever we have valued assets to cash in on, we are periodically always going to have to cash in.

Players will also always want the best for themselves and their families too, it's not greed, to me it's just being sensible about managing a short career. If they can double, treble, more even their pay, good luck to them. Especially if it means going up a division or going to a higher profile club. We can't be seen to stand in the way of progression otherwise players won't join us in the first place.

There is one man that we must not lose though. Mr Heckingbottom. Epitomises everything about the club, he must not be allowed to go anywhere - unless a truly massive premier league job came along, wouldn't deny him that. But otherwise, sign him up on whatever pay we can afford. He is the one asset we cannot afford to lose.

Just a thought - who was the last manager we had when all the Fans were really happy with him and not one was saying he should go - not up to the job at this level etc. I cant think of anyone since Wilson 1
Possibly Ritchie for a short while but that faded fairly quickly once we got into the championship

agree we need him signed up though - but I think its more than that I think he will want backing to some degree with the use of the cash we get from player sales

I'm not sure he is that desperate for masses to spend. Nobody will know the intricacies of the clubs finances better than him I wouldn't have thought, what with him pretty much running the club as well as the team at the moment.

I think he knows exactly what he has - and that he loves it.

Was thinking the same the other day. Also, when did we have a manager who was everyone's first choice for the job before he got it AND all the fans were really happy with him?

I'd guess it was September 1980, when Norman Hunter took over from Allan Clarke.

I think most were happy with Bassett

he allegedly left because player funds were not available to a great amount.

Most but not all - some people didn't think he was the right fit for our club - remembering from his Wimbledon hoofball days, even though we never played that way some fans didnt want him

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with you, the statement the club put out after Mr Johnson's departure disagrees with a lot of your (and most others' including myself) sentiments. It sort of belittles the impact of the Head Coach (not specifically Hecky obviously). Whether that was more of an emotional response than it attempted to convey or not, who knows? One would hope first of all that we are never in the same situation with Hecky, but if we were, that the club might excercise a little more tact when defining the role that he has played/is playing in our success.

When Lee Johnson was appointed to the role of Head Coach at Barnsley Football Club, it was intended to confine and focus his activities on the development, organisation and recruitment of players for the first team. The limitation of this role was to allow other management staff to have similar remits relating to the Academy, U18 and U21 teams. Partly, the purpose in designating the Head Coach role in this way was to limit the impact in the event of a change and to encourage succession planning.

This morning we gave permission to Lee Johnson to speak to Bristol City concerning their managerial vacancy. We gave this permission because we believe that the structures that we now have in place must be the key to our future success rather than dependence on a single individual. If Lee decides to stay with Barnsley Football Club we will be delighted, but if he chooses to move on, we will continue unabated with the plan we have in place for the progression of our Club.

We will provide further information in due course.

That was when we had a chief exec, and a functioning board of directors

Think Norwich and Sunderland will be in for him as well before the start of next season.

I don't think that 'Hecky ' is your normal style of 'manager' and would not fit many clubs profile. He develops squads which takes time and patience. The so called bigger clubs all want instant results and Hecky doesn't seem to see it that way.
He is by far and away the best individual we have had at the football helm . Honest, committed , local , and lots of football savvy. Long may that continue.

Unless bfc start to back hecky he'll not be with us much longer imo. Hes doing 3 jobs working 24/7. The only reason he's able to persuade clubs to loan their young players to us is because of his excellent reputation. He's got a 1st team coach to help him(Clapham) and thats it. And I understand he had to fight to get Claphams contract sorted out. There's no CEO or assistant Manager/ass Head Coach to help him as other Managers in the Championship have got. Ok he's a lifelong supporter and that's the only reason he's still here when im sure he's been made aware of other potential interest from clubs who are prepared to back him both with personnel and finance for players.
Just about the lowest budget in the Championship and we're still up there with the big boys. Some on here have said offer him a 3 year contract as though that will solve the problem. It wont! Patrick has been great for this club, saving it and then making the best decision by giving hecky the job. However I think hecky will realise at some point, if he hasnt already done so, that he can't do any more for the club without financial investment. He's got a family to consider and when a big offer comes in, which it will, if he's reached the point where he feels hes not getting the support especially with extra staff, he'll walk.

I was slightly more pragmatic (and older) I feared the worst but it never happened (regarding style), I think we could have had more success under him had he stayed.

Players come here to graduate to the premiership from the football university of Oakwell.
Whatever reason a player comes for . Most times it benifits them .Should have a higher calibre of players wanting to be a Barnsley FC player .
