When you sell your top goalscorer... the best midfielder in the championship statistically and lose your best full back to the a.c.o.n

We conceded two sloppy goals from set pieces. Mowatt stupidly made that tackle.

We didn't look great, admittedly, but when Mowatt and James are up to full fitness, Yiadom is back, and Bradshaw is back in the side, we'll be fine. Last night was one to write off. Even Newcastle lose games.

Funny how it also happened on occasions this season before we sold out top goalscorer etc. But let's choose to ignore that and base the success of the transfer window on one game. Seems the most logical thing to do.

    Alternative 'alternative view'......

When you see someone every week you dont realise how they change over time. When you haven't seen them for ages you recognise how different they are. Well the latter is how it was for me. Last game I could attend was early last season when we played Hartlepool on a cold Tuesday night. Last night I saw them again.
First of all there were a load of moaners sat behind me in East stand upper. Clearly all experienced football managers as they were able to identifyand comment on every fault (real or imaginary) when anyone made a mistake and were quick to comment "Rubbish" being the usual detailed analysis,
I don't expect recent players to instantly fit into the side and yes, Hecky needs to sort out set piece defending (particularly corners) as the first goal was simlar to the Leeds one. Davies seems to be crowded out when the ball is crossed close to the goal line, an area where really the goalkeeper should claim the ball.
I dont remember the referee for the Hartlepool game which suggests he was pretty anonymous as he should be. Last night demonstrated how refereeing has deteriorated IMO in as little as 15 months since I last attended a match. He was appalling and that level of incompetence suggests the League and FA need to get a grip. Unfortunately technology would not bhave helped with some of the blatant bias he showed )although neither the linesmen nor the referee spotted Davies handling the ball outside the area when he had a senior moment near the end.
As for the Reds performance, whilst they clearly did not play as well as they can, The difference between the two matches I attended was huge. I know we lost, but in open play BFC were the far better side, IMO. If someone had said to me after the Hartlepool match that the following season we would be playing and beating the likes of Leeds, and be well up the Championship table above teams with squads costing millions with us having spent sod all, I would have laughed.
Barnsley may rely on loanees like other teams but the difference is BFC (particularly Hecky and the backroom) are building a serious reputation for developing players. Rather than clubs merely loanin players out to us for match fitness etc the players themselves will WANT to come here as it gives them a shop window to display their skills, develop and increase their value.
I actually enjoyed last night, despite the loss and a few of the negatives aspects of the performance and there was plenty of skill on show. Totally agreed with the MOTM decision. He was all over the park great energy level. Adam looked lethargic last night though but then popped up with the shot that got us our goal.

The only slight dampener for me (apart from the weather) was the moaning minnies behind me. I suppose you spend your money swhich entitles you to HYS but I wonder what they would have said when we were play under the likes of Mel Machin in the old 4th Division. Now some of that was realy cr*p!!

All in all I enjoyed the experience esepcially how far BFC have come in such a short time. Long may it continue!

    UREDS!!!

A point of pedantry but we never played in the 4th Division under Mel....

Oops!! Senior moment Machin came much later I know ... Johnny Steele and Jim Iley was who I was thinking about (late 60s and into the 70's) when I first started going to t'Well though we did have the likes of Winstanley and Robson, to name but two, to brighten the days.

Machin never managed us lower than the second tier, let alone the 4th.
