no one thought we would have been as high up the league at this stage at the beginning. In fact many would admit, if honest, that they would have been happy to have just stayed up in the Championship. No one could have guessed just how well the squad we started with would have performed so well. So then we sell players who are key to this squad. So with the Stones sell on clause monies its about £20 million plus that's come into the club........ But had we held on dogmatically to Winnall, Hourihane and Bree.... we may well have ended up in the play offs.... and had we got there then the financial benefits of the premier league would have been well over £ 100 million... a risk ... but to me a risk well worth taking. Again we totally miss the boat.
Agree, opportunities like that don't come round often for a club like us, so the gamble is worth taking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What's done is done, we don't know where Connor's head would have been if we'd have said no you've got to see out your contract but the gamble on not cashing in on a couple of million (at the most) for the chance of getting £100m+, particularly after raking in so much in transfer fees this season, is a hard decision to swallow.
Again, thought you'd logged off dragontyke. I'm bloody glad you don't make financial decisions for the club. Or me. And you have written off our season based on one incomplete game. Cool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Speculate to accumulate that's the name of the game... Calculated risk etc etc. We now need to spend a good deal of what we got for the recent sales in order to re-build for next season... or we coulda held on ... enhanced their pay a bit and gone for the play offs...... its worth well well over £100 million to a club.... to me that risk was well worth the taking. Also the display of low ambition could also see us lose a very ambitious man called Paul Heckingbttom.... you reap what you sow my friend... but sadly it seems we sow our seeds in a very shallow soil.
He's not having a very good debut mind, heads probably on that Spanish villa he can afford now! Lololol
I don't think we would have made play offs or gone up with conor and bree. But we would have had more points on the board come may with them especially when we have failed to replace them only with short term loans and failed to tie marley and josh down that's the worrying bit.
oh and BTW I am not basing it on the game tonight I am basing it on the happenings in the transfer window.... if you cannot grasp that then you are like the town of Castleton.... beyond Hope
1 zillion % correct investment to just hold the pre window squad together was all that was needed ... and I reckon we woulda made the play offs... but noe we will be lucky to finish in the top half. Tonight's game has shown that. despite everyone calling the Ref at fault... we cannot blame refs for the fault of the clubs decisions to keep a squad together... we lost tonight simply because the club allowed the vultures to pick our bones clean.
Re: 1 zillion % correct FFS get a grip. You said it yourself in your opening gambit - "no one expected to be this high in the league at the beginning of the season". Victims of our own success.
good call Grimson but if we were a real business run by a business man then the decisions of selling prime assets may well have not been taken...... OH WAIT do we have a business man available for the club.. ??
We need to grow a pair of ********, pronto! We all know football is an unforgiving business, but we are quite happy to be the whipping boys all the time.
Re: good call Grimson But this is football, it's not a real business, otherwise it wouldn't have to rely on TV revenues, payments for failure etc.
Time will tell Hecky has come through these tests before so no reason he can't pull this one out too.
****ing bore off. Ffs you're like a broken record. Are you related to hemsy? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
