I'll take 9 points out of 15 every month. really enjoyed supporting the club this last 12 months. Hope the next 12 are as enjoyable and as surprising.
We'll see in May, when we've had a chance to see what the replacements are like. Or you could spend your time till then moaning like f*** instead. Up to you.
Agree with the op to be honest, with the money we've made in last 12 months we should have identified the players we want in November & December and got them though the door in the first week in January, instead we've gone about it like amateurs again, looked like we'd put this piss poor approach to get getting deals done behind us after our early dealings in the summer but sadly not we've reverted back to type.
Disappointing overall but it should not be forgotten that we still have a good squad. Yes we're a little light in some areas but up front we have four players who can play there: Armstrong, Bradshaw, Hedges and Watkins (if he plays with someone else he can play up front; problem tonight was that he was too isolated). We lost Hourihane, Bree, Morsy and Winnall. We've replaced Hourihane, Bree, Morsy and Winnall arguably. Importantly we've kept Watkins, Roberts, Scowen and MacDonald. Could we have done better? Of course. But we've got a great squad to take us into the rest of the season and can take more time regarding recruitment in the summer. Let's get behind the lads
I mean we'll judge the impact of the transfer window in May. I didn't and don't expect us to challenge for the play-offs, so if we finish mid table then you could argue that we've made the right call cashing in on Hourihane, Winnall and Bree before their contracts expire. Mowatt is a permanent replacement for Hourihane, and I think he'll do well. I believe Yiadom is better than Bree, so can see why we sold him, and we've got loans in to add cover to the full back positions. So Winnall hasn't been replaced like for like, which I am disappointed with, but we've added Hedges, which gives us the option of playing Marley up front. I'm disappointed we couldn't get Morsy, but he wasn't our player, and James should be a suitable replacement until the summer. We're one permanent player down. We're all gutted we couldn't keep Hourihane and Winnall, but I think there's been a massive overraction to what was a pretty inevitable set of outcomes. We can still make the biggest signings of them all - new contracts for Scowen, Watkins and Roberts, in that order of preference.
Its not moaning its his opinion and he's entitled to it. I agree with him, its been a shambles recruitment wise. The fact stefan payne has left with no replacement coming in?? Marley can do a job up front theres no doubting that, but he's no striker. We have alot of money, were in the best position and closest to the premier we've been in years could we not have secured a couple more permanent players with potential resale value?? Still 100℅ behind the lads, i just expected abit more thats all.
Red allover how can you say in one sentence that we are light in some areas but we've got a great squad to take us into the summer. This is the thick end of the season and we're around the playoffs, the club have had plenty of time to identify PERMANENT quality signings for the push but they haven't.Very poor indeed and I think they have let the fans down.
You didn't and don't expect us to challenge for the play offs? Except we are 8th and could have gone 6th tonight. I'd call that challenging. How can finishing mid table then be see as a success in that context? Of course in the wider context of where we are financially we'd all have taken it in August. Scowen might stay, Watkins won't. We need to get Mowett and Hedges blooded and ready for next season.
I don't give a ***** about Bree, Hourihane, Winnall, and Morsy. It's the fact we needed 7 players once they left and we've got 2 in, ( loans are pointless we should have been building for the long term not three months) absolute shambles again, the board are letting the team and Heckingbottom down big time, we've got the best team and coaching staff we've had for decades and the club have failed massively to back them. I honestly feel they've left them high and dry .
No, I didn't. We've had a great season so far, but we've got a small and relatively inexperienced squad, and I expect us to have dips in form, while the sides we're competing against - the likes of Derby, Wednesday, Villa and Norwich spend masses on huge squads. I'd love to be proved wrong, as this group of lads have done time and time again, but I don't expect it. I just hope we continue to build and develop the club to the point where we keep improving our chances of sustaining a challenge in the future.
