I suspect we'll see a lot more of this given our lack of strikers. Which is a shame as whenever I've seen us play it we've been hopeless.

Ah well chalk tonight off and start again on Saturday, hopefully we'll get a result as the rest of February looks fairly tricky.....

I wouldn't say we were hopeless. We played the better football, and but for some disastrous defending at the near post for 2 set pieces, and the ref, we may have got something out of the game.

That said, I hate 1 up front, and I'd lke to know what the thinking behinding it was. Wolves were possibly the poorest team I've seen this season.

We always lose when we play one up front.

I can only think it was to keep Armstrong and Bradshaw fresh.

Or to make a point to the board.

It doesn't work as well and with 4 players who can play up front there is no reason why we can't play it for the rest of the season, at home especially. Hecky seemed to get it wrong tonight, but that said when we got the ball on the floor we looked good

Whatever the reason it didn't work.

I'd like the think we won't see it again this season but we will unfortunately.

Baffled by the starting line up myself , don't understand why Bradshaw and Armstrong needed a rest , particularly Armstrong who hasn't started that many games but I know sod all about football . Lads still battled well all game unlucky not to get something even with 10 men .

It's not so much the 1 up top, but the way we lazily knocked balls up in Watkins direction.

It's debatable whether he is an out and out striker, let alone a target man.

I could understand us trying it at Fulham, as they had given us a lesson at home, but Wolves at home?

I reckon Hecky went 4 5 1 because James was knackered after Saturday & he didn't want to bring Mowatt into a midfield 2 as he also is short of match fitness.
He's tried Bradshaw as a lone striker & it didn't work so he thought Marley's extra strength would do the job.
That's my take on it but it defo didn't work & played into the hands of a poor Wolves team. Big opportunity lost but we move on.
Please Hecky tho, whatever the circumstances, do not go 4 5 1 again, especially at home. It just doesn't work for us....

One up front is *****. I think the only person more frustrated than the fans tonight was Marley.

Yeah you're probably right about the new lads. They will need a bit of bedding in.

I'd be disappointed if I was Armstrong. Score on Saturday and benched for the following game?

If there is any truth in Watkins wanting away because he wanted to play as a striker, maybe Hecky was half appeasing, and half shoving him up front to prove his own point.

Personally I've always liked Watkins in a wider role cutting in, but that's when we had a Winnall. Now he's gone they're all vying for his place, but I don't see any of the current lot banging in 20 a season.

    Hope I'm wrong.

I'd rather see two up top but the system worked. We played the better football & created more chances from open play.

If it wasn't for a stupid tackle by Mowatt & the new lads not knowing their roles at set pieces we would've won last night

And how do you know our usual formation wouldn't have worked better Django?

I've no idea, no one does.

However, I've read people on this forum state that the formation was to blame for us losing last night which is simply untrue. It made no difference to Mowatt replacing Hourihane at set pieces & the two full backs marking at them.
