I might be the little lad pointing at the emperor's new clothes here, but in the old days if Joe Richards had done what Patrick Cryne has done there would have been a mass walkout. We seem to be quite happy to see our best players going for lots of money and lesser, cheaper players being brought in. Now I know we are all better educated than we were then and we've all played football manager and know the consequences of overspending for a relatively low budget club, but what is the plan for the money? Does it go into a BFC Trust, or will it be used to upgrade the ground, or what? I buy the idea of securing the future of the club, but in my opinion the only way to do that is continued success on the field, sitting on a lump of cash will not achieve that as it will dissipate if the fans become disillusioned. Maybe I'm the only one thinking like this?
The players we've sold were also 'lesser' and 'cheap'. Hourihane from a lower league than Stephen Dawson. Mawson loaned out to League 2 and released from Brentford whilst Cranie was playing in the Championship. O'Grady sold to the Championship whilst we sign League 2 Sam Winnall James Bree will be replaced by League 2 Yiadom who was free.
People seem to be wanting to see some cash spent. Patrick in recent years has been bailing us out by 1-2 million every year. So he won't have to do that for a few years. Im abit dissapointed in this window it's been rather underwelming failing to get targets in and failing to tie key players down after we have revived 20million in transfers the past 2 windows, some people on here seem to just want us to spend and would be happy for us to sign omar bogle for 1million. Stefan payne scored more than bogle in same league last season. These people would be the 1st ones moaning when bogle looks out of his depth In thus league. Summer window will be interesting though maybe we think we are safe so will save our money until the summer I don't know.
We didn't even need to spend much, but we'd rather wait and get out of contract players in the summer.
I'd imagine we'll see more of it spent in the summer. January isn't an ideal time for major signings. It's more a month of panic and over-inflated prices. Have a little patience. We're in the best position we've been for a long, long time.
And now we're 8th in the Championship having lost 1 and won 1 since Hourihane, Bree and Winnall had all left.
Who knows where the money is but depending where we finish in the summer we're going to need a few bob for contracts if we're not going to be a one season wonder.
But will we though? I can see Scowen and Watkins moving on in the Summer and a big squad turnover required yet again. I do get this idea of bringing in younger players to develop but there also comes a time when a little bit of experience is also requured
Quite true also. What concerns folk is the very threadbare nature of the squad. We were already light and are more so now. I will freely admit that I have reservations about each signing but will wait and see as as you quite rightly say we have a track record of pulling rabbits out of the hat. I also fear that it is unfair on Hecky to expect him to keep making more of what we have when the base point for what we have is not improving and in that I mean the starting point on the evolutionary scale of their footballing development. The exception is perhaps Mowett but there is a lot of development to do with him to make him play in a similar way to Conor and to accomodate that we had to change to a negative setup yesterday. Time will tell. There is nothing any of us can do except hope that Hecky and the core of players that remain contuniue to defy expectations and finish the season as strongly as possible. it is critical that someone is brought in before the summer as CEO to ensure that we have someone competent to deal with contracts and transfers - teh summer, as per usual, will be critical.
Just trust the club. They got us here and they want to progress as much as we do. We will recruit again in the summer where prices aren't as inflated and we aren't forced to pay more for players like Omar Bogle than we did a Welsh international like Tom Bradshaw.
I'm sorry, just trust the club is not good enough. If that is all we have to do, then shut down this board and stop any discussion or any thoughts and just throw your money in the pot in May. I get what you are saying re recruiting in the summer. The problem with that is it is Feb and we have 18 games left to play and we are two points from teh play off's. I fear we have not given ourselves the best possible chance of making them with the underwhelming recruitment.
Not a chance. We will not break the wage structure. Watkins wonlt be here next season. Scowen might be, remains in the balance.
