Earlier on this season

We got 7 points from 11 games, with all our recently sold laikers. They've had to learn and develop, so will our new signings. Sky's not fallen in yet. As poor as this transfer window appears to have been.

There's been some changes, way too early to judge the new players and the squad in terms of how it will go. Fortunately we have points on our side and we dont have to worry about them bedding in as soon as possible (had we been in or around the relegation zone.)

 

Hecky made the point that it's a bit like starting again, and I agree - as you say though there isn't the pressure of a relegation scrap, and there's a core of Davies, Roberts, Scowen, Watkins etc who can help get the new ones disciplined. It's extremely frustrating given the momentum we had, but as long as this is the last time we have to take such a big step back to move forward then imho it's not that bad in the grand scheme of things. Hecky's said contracts have to be better structured in future, and tbf some of this cash we've brought in should help firm those up.

Therein lies the rub. Will we get this right?

Watkins won't be here next season. Scowen in the balance and there is a good chance we will lose Robbo in the summer too. Big recruitment job on made all teh harder with our level in the wage stakes and the current lack of a CEO...

 

To be fair every player you've mentioned could be here next season.

Watkins won't be. Move already agreed from what I hear.

Quite right this. I guess it smarts a bit more given where we are and how close to the play off's.

Chap I know. Could be wrong but he tells me he expects Watkins to go as he already has a deal arranged elsewhere. We cannot pay him what others will.

True but I'm sure we've had managers who've said similar in the past and yet here we are. If we start the next season with a load of loan players I won't be happy but given how weak our squad will be in June I can't see any way round it at the moment.

 

The sky is nowhere near falling in. I simply cannot believe some people's reactions on here. We're 8th in the Championship. 8th! What more do people want? We replaced the players we lost. Will they be good enough? Hopefully. Did we do things perfectly? No. But are things going well overall? Absolutely

 

Think folk are frustrated at what could have been (as am I) - but it's not over yet by a long chalk.
