One of many issues. I think the global trump protests are just the many voices of the world telling him what a total **** we all think he is and that his position of office is not recognised or respected, regardless of the so-called democratic processes.

 

The reason you can go about your day in relative peace and safety, have reasonable living/working conditions and hopefully enough food on the table, is a result of the common man revolting against his oppressor, by protest, direct/political action and reasoned debate.

You seem not to understand the meaning of the word. It means more than 50%. 37% is a minority. At the last election there was no majority vote for ANY party.

In such cases, sensible democracies have governments which reflect the way the electorate voted, ie coalition governments.

 

Majority of the votes cast you don't seem to understand that , there was no coalition this time cos the cons won a majority of the people who bothered to turn up to vote . Majority

They got a majority in the house of commons and a minority in the popular vote.

In the popular vote, they had a majority over Labour and they had a majority over the Lib Dems BUT they had no majority over the the all of the opposition parties combined; they had a minority. I think in the eyes of most right-thinking people this situation is not democratic.

Only 37% of the votes cast were Tory, this means that 63% of the people did not vote Tory, almost 2/3 of the people who voted.

He's right though, the liberal left are the least tolerant of any current political group, as demonstrated by their/your reaction to the recent Tory majority/Brexit vote/Trump victory (delete as applicable). As Mario K has stated elsewhere, the Jonathan Pie verdict was just about spot on, trouble is many liberals/leftists are too daft to grasp the point he was making. As for the march through tarn against a democratically elected new POTUS and his policies (which got him elected) - beyond ridiculous.

I am simply pointing out that our political system is not terribly democratic. A government in the UK can more or less do what it likes with the support of barely a third of the vote behind them. If we had a proper system, then the Tories would not be able to govern unchecked in such circumstances and would have to work with other parties thus moderating their more extreme policies.

It works very well in other countries and it would have stopped Maggie from ripping the heart out our community.

I'm not sure if you're just having me on or are genuinely stupid. If it's the latter then I apologise and hope that you can get a lobotomy on the NHS (if the Tories have left any of it).

By the way what you suggest can and does happen if there is no majority party in the commons.
