You should have said at the time. I didn't hear one post clamouring for that during lgue one playoff push but pllenty stating that they didn't think a lot of these players would make it in this league and would need replacing but non I remember asking for longer contracts.
To you maybe, and i respect that. I agree its not all doom and gloom though, i acknowledge we have a good scouting system in place, and we have a quality first team coach, who happens to be a local lad, and we have a good young squad. But unfortunately at this stage of the season ripping the heart out of the team will knock us back a few steps, which is a major disappointment given our position in the league. We had a enormous chance of achieving something magical. Some still say we do, but i'm a realist. Our poor January has ensured our season will go down like a lead balloon now. But at least we are safe eh.
Not doom and gloom ? You were posting yesterday about battening down for a relegation battle rest of season
To be honest I didn't realise when their contracts ran out until I heard Patrick saying they had a year left. And I don't really care what others said, I didn't write any of them off pretty season and I'm usually the most negative
I have to back SuperTyke here. Not once did he write off any of our players during the pretty season! Sorry, old mate, I couldn't resist.
It was gonna be named the pretty season for posterity till they saw footage of the flat cap army converge on Wembley and decided it could never be.
Yeah that was a wind up. We will not go down this season, of that i'm confident. The board need to pull their fingers out though regarding recruitment as next season we could really struggle if we don't get players contracts sorted and bring players in.
To quote a fellow BBSer Your wind ups are **** tbh. Next season's next season tbh, Look at the players Newcastle went down into championship with compared with Bournemouth's who comfortably stayed up It's all about the coaches imo. The futures bright, the future RED
When are wind ups not ****? I agree, we have a great coaching set up at the club. Hope we can keep hold of them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Back in the real world though... Yes, 'technically' that's correct, but in reality player power exists and trumps contracts. I'm gutted those lads have gone, but our chances of going up even with them I'd say were 1 in 20 at absolute best. The chances of going down now are practically zero. We now have an extra £6-8m (educated and partly informed guess) in the bank which we can use in the summer, whether it be on wages or transfer fees. At least £3m of this we wouldn't have got if we'd kept them, and probably more like £4-5m. I can see both arguments, but I know Hourihane wanted to go, and that Winnall was absolutely dead set on leaving, so I don't blame the club myself, or see it as a lack of ambition. My only frustration is that we didn't invest in a couple more like Mowatt. However, history shows you generally get better value in the summer so I can understand waiting until then.
