A bit of praise here https://twitter.com/DanJarvisMP/status/827846917686231041 Got to say, that in spite of the result, we had a great day there. The atmosphere (particularly in the first half) was as good as I can remember for a regular game. Really enjoyed it.
We travelled down on the Megabus from Coventry to Victoria. We got off the tube at Sloan Square on the way back after the game for a drink. Went in this posh bar and had a glass of Chardonay and half of fancy Italian "beer", £16; the wine was £12 for a small glass (175ml). I'm still in shock.
Well you did try rubbing shoulders with the Sloane Square set. ;-) Some nice places round there but on the side streets. Geronimo are a pretty decent small chain of pubs though not been in one for a while. And the Trafalgar is were i tend to go if over that way, but that's a fair distance down Kings Road.
Thanks for the info mate, I'll bear it in mind for next time. The megabus only cost us £8 each and we parked on the street in Coventry so it was a really cheap day out even including wine at £1 a sip.....
No probs.... have a pretty decent array of drinking holes across London so feel free to ask anytime. Got a series of books with "hidden london" walks recently and they've often got a few pubs in there to keep you going. Was in Belgravia last weekend and had a drink in the pub near where Lord Lucan murdered the home help. Never knew the actual tale of what happened, other than he'd vanished and not been found.
There are some nice pubs, me and a few mates meet up every summer to go to The Proms and we always have a beer in The Nags Head, Kinnerton Street (just off Knightsbridge), you really wouldn't know that you're in the centre of London - and the beer's good; Adnam'
There's loads of really good pubs now in loads of areas of London. Lucky that I live in East Dulwich and a dozen pubs in easy walk that all have a variety of beers from local breweries. And even had Acorn once or twice. Last year also discovered the Bermondsey Beer Mile which follows the rail tracks from London Bridge with about 8-10 brewers under the arches. Got very messy! Good... but messy! And often you go one street over from the main road and its quiet with hardly anyone around.
Really enjoyed Fulham (result excepted). Proper football, great location. Incredible to think that Fulham and Chelsea were very much working class clubs in the 60's and 70's. How things have changed. The river facing terraced houses on Stevenage road sell at over £3million. £2m on a side street!
