Looking at 3 nights stopping over at three different areas around November time using Alnwick or Bamborough as a starting and finishing point.

Dont mind doing some walking and maybe a fine distillary visit along the way.

Anyone any experience or advice to offer?

    "Road trip" including a "distillery"

That's drink driving, the do gooders will be after ya!

The Moray coast area is quite nice I went in October a couple of years ago.
    Lossiemouth is lovely.
There's a nice old distillery in elgin.

If you go west, don't miss out Skye. A wonderful island, but linked by a road bridge. Some fantastic views over the Cuillin ridge, which I would say rivals any alpine scene. Lots of lovely coastal roads which are very quiet. The Trotternish peninsula in the North has some fantastic scenery and is quite accessible by driving half way up the hill to a car park, before a wonderful walk. Some very good images on the net.

A few years ago I drove from Castletown down the coast to Inverness and then on through back down to Yorkshire. Absolutely amazing place and great to drive through as there is so little traffic away from the main tourist bits. Got pulled over by the police, but thats another story!

Had a short stay near Oban this year - again had some wonderful scenery. Worth a trip out to any of the islands - Mull was really nice.

    Already planning another trip :)

I did something similar at short notice a couple of years ago - started in Stirling (calling at Bamburgh on the way up), then across to Loch Fyne (Inverary) then Oban and finally Fort William. Plenty of walks and things to do and see, walking on Kintyre, seafood at Loch Fyne and the quay at Oban. I just picked up leaflets at the local Tourist Information offices and took it from there. The drive across Rannoch Moor down Glencoe to Fort William is still as spectacular as I remembered and the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel are amazing. I've done distillery visits in the past but this time I tried a pub in Drumnadrichit (Loch Ness) which had a fantastic selection of malts and helped me, eventually, find my current favourite tipple - Caol Isla.

My mum lives up in Inverness so I've visited a few places. Glen Ord near Dingwall is open to visitors.

In all honesty, I don't think 3 nights gives you too much scope to go that far north especially considering the time of year you are going. You'll probably only be getting around 8 hours day light and it will start getting dark around 4ish - also I would also consider the time of year you are going. Also, the weather may be a factor in determining how much you can do.

There have been some good suggestions already. Skye is a good shout especially as it's called 'Scotland in miniature' however I went there once November for a long weekend in November in poorish weather and it took me 6/7 hours to get there from Glasgow. It might be worth saving this for another visit. I think the suggestion by Scarf sounds good. Maybe stop around Stirling/Calendar/Aberfoyle for a first stop before heading up to either Inverness or Fort William for a second stop. Head back down through Glencoe to Loch Lomand or Loch Fyne for your third night sounds doable and not too taxing. They're are plenty of distilleries around so that shouldn't be an issue :)

I went to the Glen Ord distillery last year and it was one of the better distillery visits I've done. There is also a cracking wee organic brewery on the Black Isle called - unimaginatively - Black Isle brewery. Their beer is great and they've just opened a pub/inn in Inverness. I'm up there next weekend so I hope to give it a try.

Have done various bit but not in a continuous trip JT. I love the East Side, from Dundee up to Stonehaven, we have friends who we stay with in Carnoustie. I've also done much of the West Side, from Girvan up to Oban and Fort William. Try driving through the Electric Brae if you get the chance. One of the weirdest things I've done. Just north of Turnberry and Culzean Castle. You'll drive uphill hard on the brakes, go downhill and floor the accelerator. Optical illusion of the landscape. Usually tie the West in with Open Golf at Troon and Turnberry too.

i'm off up that way in a couple of weeks, i like to stay in Seahouses, do the beach walk to Bamburgh and back, Farn islands and Holy island. 1 and half hour drive up to Edinburgh. Very relaxing. Place we like to stay is here and they do deals this time of the year.

Heard they are doing a special malt this year only 500 bottles up for grabs. If you register and your name comes out you will be offered the chance to buy one bottle. Price?? £1500. In about two or three years they say the bottle, full?? Would be worth around £3000
