True. I don't mind him doing that, but it grates when some fans held him up as an angel whilst they pilloried Winnall. Either way, I laughed my arse off last night. Should have stayed on made a move in the summer if need be.

 

True. Though to be fair, Conor comes across as anything but thick in interviews. It sounds like Steve Bruce sold the club to him, but for whatever reason things aren't working out there right now. To be fair, the club was completely rotten. Even someone as competent as Steve Bruce will need time to turn something like that around.

 

I suppose looking at it from an unbiassed viewpoint, and with the millions that Villa were throwing about, they did look the most likely club that he would be able to play top flight football with in the medium to long term.

It's amazing though the amount of quality players that have come here and made a name for themselves, leave for a better club for money/career prospects/both and had never been able to reproduce what they have done in a red shirt...

In fact, how many players have gone on to actually improve? Stones, Holgate maybe Butterfield? Any more?

 

Just out of interest. On what basis do you make that statement?

 

Connor didn't leave for a local rival, be pictured signing a contract on the day Mr Barnsley was having a wonderful send off or force us to sell him ASAP. He also left for 12k more a week than Winnall did. Totally different ways of conducting themselves as men.

 

Winnall wasn't responsible for posting the photo and most people on here spent the day slagging him off rather than talking about Norman. He wasn't refusing to play, just said he wanted to go. Not different to Hourihane except he didn't drop hints on Twitter first.

 

Great player, great memories, nice bloke, but has made a complete balls up from a footballing perspective. Financially he's made a good decision. But that's the problem with football these days, money wins every time. Players don't seem to care about their careers & the legacy they could leave.

Has anybody managed to work out who posted the picture in tw@tter first? I heard it was his agent who sent it to a friend who in turn put it on but I've also heard it was winnalls bird who put it on .

 

He's got a bird? He's still boy racing up and down Headingley/Otley rd clambering for all the students hoping one of them likes a bit of the Lion off Wizard of Oz.

18k a week Lion though.

 

I'm as disgusted by the way money has ruined the game as anyone. I accept that most players have a love of the game and a desire to win things, play to the full extent of their abilities. But to turn down a pay increase from a notional 7k a week to 28k a week when injury could end your earning power with the next bad tackle would be madness. If a guy's earning £100k a week and goes somewhere for 200k fair enough I don't see the logic, he's already rich. But for Conor the increase in wages is life changing for him and his family.
He's left a legacy with us. Maybe he's going to leave a legacy at Villa too. Good luck to him.

 

It could well be that Connor's best chance of playing in the Prem, where surely all players want to end up, would have been by playing for us. Unless Villa stay up and do significantly better next season, then you can't really see him playing any higher than he is now.

And I doubt he'll be anywhere near the Ireland squad in the near future.

If I was gifted with a football at my feet though I'd have done exactly the same though, he probably wasn't aware of the toxic environment he was joining as on the evidence of last night and Villa's form they are continuing to go backwards as a club and haven't reached rock bottom yet, I was surprised how bad they were last night playing against what was a very inexperienced and makeshift Barnsley team.

 

Some nonsense been spoke on here.

He's clearly not joined Villa for some short term fix straight back to the prem.

He's signed a long term deal for one of the biggest clubs in the country who have been in turmoil for the last few seasons.

I'm pretty certain when he joined them he wasn't thinking that everything would be rosey by mid-Feb & that it would be looking like a fantastic move so quick.

 

Conor is a nice lad and a great footballer who served us well and has made a professional career choice. Fair play to him. He's not had the best start, but there is something seriously wrong at Villa. They're not going to to anything this season and will likely throw another £70m at it in the summer, probably under a new manager. Where will might leave Conor is anyone's guess. He may have also said tara to his international career too, by leaving BFC.
