The more I think back to Saturday, the more impressed I am with Adam Davies' performance. Pretty faultless, not just those spectacular saves, his all round game was fantastic. He's developed into cracking keeper. Been thinking of similar performances and brilliant saves from Barnsley keepers past and just wondering what anyone else can recall? Bit of reminiscing that's all. Couple of David Watson's are in my mind - v Newcastle at home in the league cup 1994 when he made a double save from Andy Cole and Alex Mathie in what seemed to be the same movement, and away at Middlesborough in the same season when we drew 1-1. Made an endless string of saves with every part of his body that night, even the Sheffield Star gave him a 10. I can't recall specific games with Clive Baker, he seemed to have a blinder most weeks.
Luke Steele versus Liverpool (obvious). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8eUX5JjCdQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHpdMu5miBM
Heinz Muller penalty save at home versus? Dave Watson at Newcastle in Fa cup saving Shearer's header Adam Davies save at Wembley vs Oxford
Clive Baker every match from 1984 to 1991 though one in the zenith data cup when we actually best Wednesday springs to mind.
Nick Colgan saving 3 penalties against, I think it was Brighton, but the ref really wanted them to score so they scored the 4th attempt
Yes that was a back to the wall game. The thing that sticks in my mind from that game was Adie Moses on Steve Mcmanaman`s shoulder all game never more than 12 inches from him from start to finish.
Baker was a great keeper but my abiding memory of him was the look on his face when Paul Futcher neatly lobbed him for a brilliant OG against West Brom.
Definitely not mentioned in dispatches for that one. Not one of my favourite Reds goalkeepers. What a brilliant clip though - Third Division Barnsley on Match of the Day and players like Jimmy Robson, Eddie Loyden, Norman Dean and a boyish looking Eric Winstanley in our team. Would love to see whole matches from that era but I don't suppose they exist, anywhere.
Heinz Muller against Colchester at home. He went down injured after about half an hour, and we didn't have a back up keeper (I think Ferenczi was pulling on the jersey on the bench). He played on, saved a penalty and kept a clean sheet, winning us the game, then subsequently missed the rest of the season with knee ligament damage. Legend status for that game alone.
