Wherever possible, Hecky should only play players who will be here next season. Give the likes of Mowett, Moncur and Hedges, to name but two games to acclimatise and adjust so the coaching staff and the players themselves can see where they need to improve. It might affect results but it's futile playing loan players now except maybe James.
I agree to some extent I cant see any point playing Armstrong and Kent or in particular Elder, and the jury is out on Jones as well. What happened to Kpekawa - he didnt impress at LB but he was a darn sight better than Elder looks to be I dont understand why Moncur isnt getting some game time - he had a couple of half decent games then gets dropped - hardly the best way to develop him
i would be looking to cut short any loans deals we have if it is possible without any financial penalty and looking to the u23's and academy if we need players
I agree with this. Kent shouldn't be starting over Hamill for me & I think we should be playing Marley up front in his preferred position, with Bradshaw. If we are going to have any chance of keeping Marley, surely we should play him where he wants to play, especially as we are very one dimensional up front with Armstrong & Bradshaw. Want to see Williams & Moncur see what they can do, as we will need them next season. Obviously midweek games Hecky will occasionally have to rest one or two. (I think Adam was carrying a knock), but generally we need to see the bones of what we have for next season.
Disagree about bradshaw and armstrong 2 diffrent types of players. And bradshaw hasn't been getting a look in all season he has mostly made cameos from the bench 1st winnall was infront of him now armstrong.
Watkins played up top for most of last night's match. I'm still convinced his best position is wide. In any case, he won't be here next season.
Oddly I agree, you're right mate. Playoffs are a pipe dream, lets look to next season now and bring on the players that are on contracts.
Agreed, time to focus on developing our own players for next year where possible. The loanees still have a role to play but I'd rather see Hammill over Kent for example.
Agree, we are safe now, there's no harm in giving the loanees a chance to see if they are worth keeping, which we have done but from now on we should be looking to next season and developing the players we have got into a tight unit, that are able to play the way Hecky wants. I trust Hecky totally to do right thing.
The only two loanees we might be able to sign are Elder and James so play them. Only other is James and we've no chance of signing him.
The problem is that we cant just dump the loanees for the rest of the season . There will have been a deal in place with their respective parent clubs about the amount of game time that they would receive . Don't get me wrong , I'd like to see one or two sent home but it simply can't and won't happen . What a dour end to a great season btw.
correct you cant dump them because when it comes to repeating the same next year clubs will be reluctant to lend you there rough nuggets and before you say stuff the loan market its part of the blueprint so we will reluctantly have to play the game
Agree that we can afford to give some of our own talent some more game time, however I still think Hecky should be putting out the best team possible to win each game. Regardless of whether some of those players are loanees or not.
Bradshaw has started more games than either Winnall or Armstrong. It's weird isn't it because they have all been so stop start it doesn't feel like it. 23 starts and 12 subs.
It certainly doesn't feel like Bradshaw has played that many games. I know when we've gone 1 up front though it's generally been Bradshaw so I still think it's slightly harsh to look at his game to goal ratio. For me he's our number 1 striker and should be starting as much as possible. Whether Hecky was resting him last night I don't know.
It's imperative that we don't allow ourselves to effectively give up on the season with ten games to go. Although our primary objective of safety has been achieved and the play offs are out of reach, there is still a hell of a lot to play for. The difference between sliding down to 15th, playing insipid, 'already on the beach' football and giving it everything to finish say, 8th, cannot be underestimated. We have to try to continue the momentum. We have to make our club as attractive a proposition to potential recruits as possible. We must at least give Scowen and Watkins something to consider in the summer. Most importantly we must give the fans and Hecky some encouragement that we have something to build on through the summer rather than having to literally start over both in terms of recruitment and morale. In addition, how gutting would it be to see the likes of Aston Villa, Cardiff, Derby, QPR etc edge past us after doing so well to get ahead of them all this season?!
