Got home yesterday to find back door unlocked, TV in living room gone and TV in my bedroom along with Xbox One also gone. Phoned police straight away but they can't come out till tea time. Not bothered about the TV cos it's insured but it's the Xbox One i'm more gutted about Any advice?
Sorry to hear that. "..back door unlocked "?? Any sign of a forced entry or did you have a spare set of keys hidden somewhere they used to leav after breaking in? If you left a door unlocked it can cause problems with insurance - you need a crime number from the police anyway for the insurers. Stuff can be replaced but its the thought that someone has been through your stuff. We were burgled (or an attempt was made) about 5 years ago when we still lived in Barnsley. We were actually in the house when they smashed their way in via the back door after the keys for the new car parked up in the back" My missus scared the toe-rags off (one was in the kitchen and about to come down the hallway) with her 'teacher voice' She cared the sh*t out of me too although afterwards when she thought what might have happened she was a bit shocked. We heard the crash in the kitchen whilst watching TV and she got up first to see what it was . Good job really 'cos if I had got hold of the scumback I would probably have ended up charged with assault. Anyway, the follow up from Crime prevention suggested we beef up our security since statistically they apparently often return to properties where they were previously successful. Simple stuff like security lights outside. Timers on inside lights to give impression you are at home etc. (not much use in daytime I admit. Anyway, hope it gets sorted OK
Well I phoned my brother straight away cos I didn't stay at our house Friday night and he said he can't remember whether he locked door or not, what probs happened is he let cat out and he forgot to lock back door cos when I got back door key was still in and door unlocked and cat was still outside.
That is really unlucky. The one time someone forgets to lock the door you get burgled. Suggests someone goes down the street trying doors where they think the house is empty and' drop lucky' If I had a brother that did that he would owe me an Xbox and a new TV
No he didn't Wayne. He locked the door remember. He must have dropped the keys on the floor outside and the cnuts have found them and let themselves in. Your insurance will be much friendlier if you remember that that is what happened, or rather if he remembers 100% that that is what happened. I wouldn't worry about the Xbox any more than the TV, they will all be replaced on insurance.
I don't condone insurance fiddling, but you have a genuine claim, so don't forget to mention that they took about 400 quids worth of games for the Xbox too, that should cover your excess. Incidentally, where do you live Wayne? I'm Ardsley and apparently there has been a lot of burglaries in the Ardsley-Darfield area this year.
You need to lock the door and smash it with a sledge hammer to bust the lock. They'll not piss about with the claim then. Do you live in Wombwell or nearby by any chance?
Sorry to hear that. Never quite felt the same after we had been burgled til we moved, a very strange and invasive feeling.
No just of summer lane in Tarn, as I left house I noticed next door have cctv in garden so hopefully that'll help
Well i've only got fallout 4 what is on disk, all my other games which I bought/own via xbox gold are downloaded.the fifa 14 our michael bought is on floor at top of steps which I ain't touched so can get finger prints from that
Bang on JD. You should be able to leave your house unlocked safe in the knowledge that it won't be violated by low-life scum but sadly the nature of a small minority mean this isn't possible. Burglary is a terrible crime that affects the victim far more than just replacing the items stolen, and sentences should be much more severe than they currently are to reflect this.
Insurance is the biggest con in the land. They can put any clause in that they want and the consumer can do nothing about it.
