Blaming an attacking player for a goal conceeded is stretching is abit. He hit the woodwork so was unlucky as if that had gone in Villa might have got a point and people would be talking about how he's scored his second goal for them. It could I suppose just be a coincidence that our form has dipped since he left us and the form of Villa has improved since he's joined them.
I'm the happiest clapper in the old West Stand, but of course we're weaker. Our results spell that much out. Bree and Andy lad were both doing well, Conor just being the best player in the league and Winnall in career best form. The only player to step up is Matty James, who is clearly happy at Oakwell, but he'll be back at Leicester before too long to pick up his wages.. We are due a complete over-haul, with more players likely to leave, the loans going home and a need to add depth to the squad. I just hope our domino is higher in the pecking order after a very decent season and a bit of money in the bank. And we're not still trying to assemble a team a week before kick off in August. This is a largely football based post.
Said it before the club can't win no matter what they do. People moan about we should have had these players sign new deals they was interest in Mawson conor bree and sam winnall when we was still in league one they wanted to keep their options open now they are all earning 3 times what they could here minimum.
And yet donor himself stated that if he was offered a contract he might have signed but he was never even offered one. Now that contradicts what pc said in the summer so who is telling the truth? I feel there are a lot of fairly important unanswered questions this season
Easy for him to say that after the summer if he wanted a new contract he could have told his agent and I'm sure he would have at least held talks with the club. I know who I belive, mind you even with a new deal he would still be a villa player now they would have just coughed up a few more million for him.
There's a massive difference. In fact two. Winnall made it clear he wanted out. No doubts Wednesday had already let it be known what he could be earning. Therefore, the club had to take the offer, even if it did not "turn the owner's head" (To quote Hecky) With Watkins, we had a bid for him that did not turn the owner's head and one presumes that Marley's response was to then request a transfer. This was denied and he decided to knuckle down and crack on.
If he signed a new deal he would still have left just villa would have paid a few more quid for him. And you would still be moaning, truth is if a player wants to leave contracts mean very little
100% incorrect. If he had twelve months on his contract we would have got double for him. I accept we are going to lose players. I just want us to get fair recompense. Just like other clubs do.
Uh But perhaps not if we had sneaked into the play offs and got promoted (being one point off at the time)...
Of course not, but we certainly weren't certain to finish in the play-offs with our best players. We hadn't been in them since September, and there was always the possibility of a run of bad form like in October and November All I'm saying is we may not have finished in the play-offs - and even if we had done we still would have had to win them - and we may have found ourselves in the summer still in the Championship and losing several key players at once and not getting a penny for them, except compensation for Bree
Can't say I disagree with you to be honest. If the season had run in reverse with us doing badly first half and well second the achievement of a top half finish would be rightly celebrated. As it is it's quite easy to see us struggling to break 60 points which both feels anti climatic and doesn't exactly fill you with confidence about next season. I guess people may feel that it he chance we had this season may not come around for a very long time and that we may regret not having a go. I fall between the two positions myself. The money we got for Winnall was pretty insignificant I would probably have made the miserable sod stay. Bree I might have taken my chances with a tribunal. Still leaves Hourihane and on the balance of things you have to say letting him go for nothing in the summer would have been a mistake.
Not much point signing any players in the summer - might not be much cop. Not much point doing owt really. Might not come off.
And if we'd sold no one in January it might not have paid off, and we might not have got in the play-offs, and we might have lost all those players for free
