Why don't we tie a little bow on his head and gift wrap him like we did with the January three , tie a little tag to him saying he ' was ' our hero he 'was' one of our own but ' good luck Hecky' . We are being pillaged and it's chuffin crap .
You've nailed it there. We are being asset stripped and if you have the temerity to point that out you're just negative and not a fan.
None of us like it but it is what has happened repeatedly down the years. Good managers are poached by bigger clubs. We cannot afford to hang on to our best players. As some one who has been watching this team for over 50 years it is just our fate and we need to accept it or support another club. However, Barnsley FC is in my blood so I take the good times and get on with supporting them the rest of the time. CORY.
How many times the issue isn't players wanting to better themselves and move to bigger clubs its the clubs absolutely avoidable incompetence letting key assets get to the point that they hold the cards so we don't get the return required to remain competitive.
If Hecky goes we are doomed. Doomed I tell ye.... We have a wad of spare cash to be used................. to keep him here. We all know why we've been punching above our weight. If he goes as well, then the last vital organ will have been scavenged from the Oakwell carcass.
#littleoldbarnsley. Where's the fight and ambition ? Your length of service as a fan is unquestionable and admirable but why can't we do a Burnley?
Good question, however, there are 92 clubs & unfortunatley they cant all fit in the premier league but the more I read this forum the more I am convinced that there seems a culture amongst the modern day fan that we must be successful & anything else is the end of the world. What ever happened to supporting your team & accept that it is about watching your team, be it win, lose or draw & if you cant accept that, then take up knitting !
Thats just the small club mentality I'm talking about . We've been in this league more than any other club but some see it as some sort of privilege , and the old favourite ' punching above our weight' . Its ******** , we are where we are because we deserve to be . We should be trying to push on .
What gets me is why we are unable to get a decent ambitious board together, No wonder players and managers look elsewhere.
No its not, its realism. We have spent more years in this league than any other club - yes that's true. But for the vast majority of those years, pre-$ky, we were battling against the odds it seemed because the teams at the top of the pile had twice as much money as we did. Now, many teams in the league have 10 times as much money as we have. And most of them have twice as much money as we have. We have to understand how financially disadvantaged we are at this level - it is the new reality. "Pushing on" as you describe it, I am sure means spending money we can't afford to stay competitive. Many of the clubs in this league have players on their books who cost them more than our entire team cost. Players that cost more than it would cost us to rebuild the stadium from the ground up. Individual players who get paid as much in one year as it would cost us to rebuild the West stand. We are where are because we deserve to be. 100% true. But that doesn't dilute the stark fact that even staying there is damned hard with our resources, never mind "pushing on". I am a realist. I still want a club to support in 10 years time. I still can't quite believe the quote, at the time we played Villa, that they have spent more this season than we have in our entire history. Utterly bonkers, but that is what we are up against.
Have we not been pushing then? Have I imagined the last 12 months? Less than a year ago we won twice at Wembley, got promoted, this is our first season back at this level, and we're top half! 11th! Above our fellow promoted L1 sides, way ahead. Above one of the richest clubs in football in Villa, above Lee Johnson's big spenders, a Wolves side with a £12m player on the wing, above Cardiff, Ipswich, Birmingham, Blackburn, etc etc etc. We've not been this high at this level at this stage of a season in donkey's years. And we've managed all this despite losing player after player, despite losing two CEO's, an assistant head coach and despite low crowds compared to most of the division. 24 points still to play for. I'd say we've pushed on quite a bit.
yep,we certainly pushed on,no doubt about it,but january put a right dampner on things and IF we do lose hecky then i fear all that pushing will come up against a very steep hill..
I've spoken in length about how fantastic last season was and we all know that but we can't wallow in past glories . Its time to move on . This league isn't insurmountable and we simply must keep building on what we've achieved cos if we stand still we'll go backwards . Forgive me for wanting the best for my club . Btw I thought you was abandoning the bbs
And that statistic made the win even sweeter because we had a better 'team' than Villa. That's the beauty of football .Its not all black and white .
Of course. Individual games will always throw up results like that. That's why Lincoln City made it to the quarter finals of the FA Cup. But over time, Villa will do better than us. It is almost inevitable. The exceptions to the rule are thin on the ground. Anyone who thinks that Villa don't have a better chance than us of reaching the Premier League in the next 3 years are just not being realistic.
Agreed it's simple mathematics really and I get that , what I don't accept is the continuous negative comments from supporters who say basically we should be grateful of where we are . I bet if you asked Hecky the same question he'd say " we deserve to be here " . Look at his interviews it's obvious that he's pissed off with the situation regarding the CEO and player sales . The position we are in at the moment comes around once in every generation and were about to chuck it all away again . Someone said earlier that even if Hecky goes we'll find another hero . Its just bloody nonsense , when was the last hero? .....20 years ago that's when !
