posts like this are always amusing. Well the replies are. I cannot help but smile at the deluded fools who get upset and start ranting about other clubs attracting multi millionaires ... and why not us. The fact is plain, as someone else has said we have absolutely no assets now and as such are not attractive. Allegedly the only reason the Mayor came in was because of the land value. I know Oakwell has been our forever home so far.... but seriously would the once suggested move to a new stadium up near the M1 roundabout by Dodworth have been a bad thing... its very debatable but worth some thought.
I'm not sure what significance Gosport and Havant & Waterlooville's semi pro teams have to the argument. They've barely averaged 1,000 fans between them this season.
Abart as much relevance as Hemsworth has when it's not even in the Barnsley borough. Are you going to confirm then that the Portsmouth borough does not have a population of 1.5m?
Our asset is the fact that we are members of a league one step below the richest league in the world and could get there with a bit of investment. If it was a deal breaker I'm sure Cryne could sell his share of the land. Not really sure why someone would need to own the land anyway - they can't use it for any purpose other than football and the rent is practically a peppercorn rent. That was far more polite than you deserved.
I never said Hemsworth was in the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough. I used it to demonstrate how close some of the South Hampshire towns mentioned are to Portsmouth.
I've already said that I'd realised their local authority structure is different to ours, making it difficult to compare. The equivalent area used to be the Portsmouth Urban Area, which had a population of 442,252 in 2001. That's nearly twice as much as the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough. It merged with the Southampton Urban Area for the 2011 census though.
