If only anyone could have foreseen that it was a terrible idea to allow George Williams to leave for nothing. Eh? Oh.
I think most of us were surprised when he was released. Not one of the club's better moments was it? Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
No it wasnt, but what has George done since then ? I wonder if he also regrets leaving a promotion winning team.
Ok that disappoints me when I hear of players being greedy like that, but what exactly were we offering him. I wonder if he had genuine reason to turn us down after all. And bear in mind even if we had spent extra on keeping him, would we be having these problems at the back right now, and relying on two Premship flops!
Word at the time was that he wasn't asking for very much more than what was on the table, but the club wouldn't budge. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
I dont really want to go on about this Fitz, because it annoys the hell out of me. But doesnt it all tie in with our appalling January window as well, where we had money and simply refused to spend it on anybody within our budget.
George Williams's dad said this about the contract. "The contract offered was the absolute minimum the club needed to offer to trigger compensation, not a penny more. George didn't feel wanted and it was made clear he would have limited chances next season. He did ask for an additional £150 per week; he was offered £1,050."
Yeah that's the type of story I was referring to, but I couldn't remember the details. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Williams had made quite a step up from non league though. Maybe the club didn't fancy him at this level? Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Why on earth was it made clear to him that his chances would be limited this season ? Were we saying that to him because we had genuine talent to replace him with, or was it more of a threat because he was stalling over his contract. Look we've never been a rich club and its always nice to hear we're in the so called black financially, and not having to worry about the dreaded administration again. But we've done well in recent years on certain player sales and there is definite money there to spend. As Ive said before this annoys the hell out of me that we've peed away this season and seem happy to just keep our place in this division (for 1 more season at least).
Basically we didn't want to up his wages a bit. An absolute disgraceful decision by the club considering he had a huge hand on getting us promoted and was one of our stand out performers and less injury prone than Aidy White. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He was going to be 5th choice full back behind Bree, White, Kpekawa & Yiadom, in hindsight it looks a daft decision releasing him but I don't think many would've predicted that Bree would be sold, Kpekawa would look poor & go awol for months on end & that 3 other full backs, White, Elder & Jones would all get injured at the same time & now Yiadom is injured too. That's just a freak occurrence. Williams probably wouldn't have played a game until January if he'd have stayed so I can see why the club weren't offering him more money & he'd have only got a game then because of Yiadom discovering some Ghanaian ancestry that we didn't know about. Compare that to centre back where we've only needed 3 players all season & the 3rd ones only made about 5 appearances. We've just had a lot of bad luck at full back that you can't really account for
Or if you put the other spin on it: He didn't fancy himself being able to push Aidy White (known knacker) out of the team, so was asking for a bit more to sit on the bench. So when we called him out on it and told him he'd be a bench warmer this year, he got tit on and ****** us off. An absolutely disgraceful decision by a horrendous man and footballer. *Satire
He's been a regular in the MK Dons team since October time and has captained them a couple of times too. The club themselves are under performing but he's managed to dislodge Dean Lewington from left back who's been 1st choice in that position since before they sold their soul. MK Dons fans: Williams doesn't let us down wherever he plays so not too worried about him. the other George Williams has played very well this season, I'd add Williams to the list of exceptions. He's done a really good understated job wherever he's been asked to play. Robbie seems to be preparing Williams as a future captain. A list of positives: + Agard (can't sniff at 13 goals this season) + Williams + Tilney (worth keeping on to develop I think) I only really want us to keep Aneke, Agard, Baldock, Williams, Wootton and maybe Tilney as he shows potential for a full back. Anyone else I'm not bothered about. I've been amazed by how high George Williams can get on occasion. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Some of those hundred thousand grands we spent on Kpekawa could have gone towards keeping him for an extra 150 quid a week.
Williams left because of his agent not the club. Was offered a deal and his deadline passed. The club would not be held to ransom.
