The thing that i didn't get is once he had celebrated like that why on earth did he come over to applaud at the end?

 

Maybe, just maybe, he realised he had got it badly wrong after scoring and wanted to look as though he was making amends. He didn't actually get a chance to say goodbye to us before he left so maybe this was his acknowledgement of the almost unwavering support that he got

 

Maybe he was just being sarcastic?

No it doesn't state that. It states "in the opinion of the referee" The ref obviously doesn't agree with your interpretation and could be deemed to have used common sense.
I agree with the ref on this occasion.

  Fifa rules state that a player must be cautioned when:
  

• In the opinion of the referee, he makes gestures which are provocative derisory or inflammatory

• He climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being scored

• He removes his shirt over his head or covers his head with his shirt

 

There is little consistency in how other aspects of a game are dealt with, so why expect goal celebrations to be any different?

He was inciting violence, anyone in East Stand could have ran on pitch and broke his leg.Should have been sent off

 

I didn't expect any different from him he made it clear when he was here he had a dislike for our supporters. To celebrate like that was totally unprofessional little kids in the family stand didn't boo him or their dad's who paid his wages. One day he may grow up I liked how he ran so far down the east stand by this time near me in the ponty people had already gathered at the front anticipating winnall but his arse fell out and he stopped running any further.

 

If the referees opinion is that he wasn't making gestures which were provocative or inflammatory then he isn't fit to referee. There is no other way to describe what he did and anyone who attempts to do so is an idiot

 

Completely agree, just glad our players stuck to game plan and did nowt.

 

He'd have been lucky to come out alive if he ran up to the singing section of the ponty, wonder if he would have done it did he posess Adebayor's pace.

 

I wonder if he would have gave it to the ponty had he scored at the other end. But knowing Sammy he would have run down the east or west stand and towards the Wendy's spineless lovely person.

Initially I thought it was his attempt at sarcasm, but I actually think it was just pure his pure arrogance that made him think he'd get a clap back.

 

I was thinking back to when he first came to us and scored a header in a 1 0 win at bumhole lane.

After the game he came over to the fans behind the goal and looked overwhelmed at us all singing and celebrating the win.

He looked humbled by it all and at that point I wouldn't have forseen the bad feeling that was evident yesterday.

He's probably top of the hated list now
