All the whingers love playing with the clubs money. If it was up to them we'd be spending for fun and back in administration.
Conor Houriane has more goals this season that James has in his career. He's a good player but nowhere near the same as Conor as he's clearly a different type of player.
The answer is, more money than we'll spend in a decade at Oakwell, unless we're taken over by a Peter Ridsdale led consortium & go bust within 2 years. Can see us maybe getting a player of James calibre on loan again next season & hopefully keeping Josh & getting Mowatt & Moncur up to speed. They both may surprise us. Add another "find" from the lower divisions & Conor will not be replaced, but we may have some decent midfield options. Will be hard to hang on to Josh, but I can dream.
The problem is, there are many clubs who have insanely rich people, or foreign ownership who may be using club losses to offset tax liability, that are "happy" to take a punt on a player and pay well above their worth. The moment they start offering 4,5, or even more times what a player is currently on, you have an unsettled player. This is life post Bosman. The only way a club has perceived control is when they throw ever increasing amounts of money at them and a very lengthy contract. And lets face it, how many players once they feel they've reached their ceiling, combined with a big payday, ease off and live off it? The sad reality is now and then we'll hit lucky and keep a player a little longer than might be expected. But every other time, there are clubs and agents with more power and money than what we have and our players will look elsewhere if they can get away, and if nobody thinks they can get better, they'll stay. But to be fair, I prefer this to the situation of having the likes of Kennedy, Wiseman, Perkins, Mellis, Dawson et al, who we ended up having to pay to get rid of... while enduring little drive, effort or skill on the pitch in the process.
Agreed. It's ok people keep banging on about lack of ambition and being poorly run , and even the cheap season ticket thing keeps coming up, but how much can you afford to gamble? The guy at Huddersfield is a friend of one of my customers. Hes making nothing out of football, in fact he's chucking money at it. Says the only time he would get his money back would be to sell or liquidate. Thankfully for them he loves the club and has their best interest at heart, same as Patrick. Can the same be said of some foreign billionaire that could just lose interest? Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
