In every society there are the extremists. Just like muslims do have a significant number of extremists, like the Irish republicans and loyalists had their fare share of extremists on both sides of the catholic/Protestant divide, like the KKK hid (hide) behind a thin facade of Christianity.... it goes on and on. And in Barnsley there are a few moronic racists. Perhaps disproportionately more than in many other areas. But they are still a tiny minority compared to decent folk.
