Remember in the not too distant past when we were hammering the club for only signing loans? Have we had a bad loan player (attitude-wise) in the last two seasons? I don't think we have. And how many of them have we all wished the club would sign, 70%?
This season I'm unimpressed by Armstrong's attitude and wouldn't sign him or Kent who is too inconsistent. I wouldn't sign Elder as he looks miles off. Jones might be worth a punt. Matty James we never had a chance on and Morsy we couldn't afford so I'm going 1 from 6 possibly 2 from 6. Wasn't it last season we had Crowley and Rothwell and Smith and Conor Wilkinson before getting it right later in the season ( though I still wouldn't sign Chapman or Toney) Brownhill. Fletcher and Isgrove definitely though so maybe 40 percent last year. ( again we had no chance of signing either Fletcher or Brownhill) given we couldn't afford one and the other had his deal with LJ lined up.
Granted Armstrong hasn't scored that many goals, there's a player in there though. Elder is probably the only one this season who I reckon we have much better in the academy, I do like Jones though, keeps it simple. Janko looked good when he first came, think he'd be worth a punt if he can stay fit. I honestly can't remember Rothwell at all, Crowley was raw but a very good player, remember seeing him away at Millwall and he tore them a new 'en. Wilkinson isn't worth wasting breath about but thought all the others last season did well. Really can't believe Isgrove hasn't been about anywhere this season as he is a top player.
Not having a go but do you really think Armstrong and Kent are not good enough for us. I think they are both still improving but will go on to much better things than bfc in the future and when that time comes I wish we could have the transfer fee that they go for. I wouldn't take Armstrong on a free. Kent if he was 250k then yes more than that I'd look down the leagues for someone to match his 2 assists and 2 goals. Neither one is for me.
Opinions pal, I'll definitely keep an eye out for them in the future but Armstrongs goal at Preston and Kents goal at home to leeds show clear signs of talent, consistency and a more regular end product may come with age. I wouldn't hesitate to gamble on them. Cheers Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
I think Kent might do well eventually myself. Armstrong scored so many of his goals running through unopposed on the goalie last season he won't get the chance to do that outside L1 and kids international football. He is still young enough to get more strings to his bow though and i'd never write anyone off.
Kent & Armstrong will be championship / L1 players at best. At the moment they are nearer L1. I think we are stuck as a club using the loan market to make up the squad, as the club they are signed to are paying / subsidising wages. Down side is you're getting a raw player you are never going to sign. Plus point I suppose is you have money to spend elsewhere. If they are as good as James it's a no brainer though...
I'd love Isgrove back for start of new season. Doesn't look like he's getting his contract renewed at Southampton
