No...........we lost the player because we retracted the £500k release clause ( and offered less). Once that was removed he was free to re negotiate. .It had nothing to do with any wage demands. It was not a distraction, (the fee) it was everything. We were cute finding out the release clause and then lets be kind and say......... less than cute "trying it on" by offering less. He only took Wigan's wages because we had now not bid enough to activate the release clause. Player was coming to Barnsley, until the messing.
Yes he will have known wednesday were going to pay him 18k a week and let's face it no other team would have gave him that.... Leeds only pay their top earner chris wood 19k a week
Barnsley deactivated the release clause (by offering less ) then he started talking to Wigan again, HE WANTED to come. All Linton and reds fault.................. the fee was no distraction it was everything to do on this deal.
Unfortunately we do not live in a Darling Buds of May world. His agent would have known all along what Wigan would be prepared to go to and would have told Morsy the magic number. They would have been unofficially negotiating from the point he went on loan. We would never have reached this magic number whatever happened about the fee. We were doomed to fail from the moment Morsy's agent said stay put and you'll get X amount. He might have loved it here but he loves the money more.
Correct , we triggered the release clause then tried to offer to offer less than that figure . We lost a good player for the sake of c100k . Linton was trying to be a smart arse but his lack of experience backfired .
Think this and a couple of other things ultimately cost Linton his job. Mate of mine was trying to argue on twitter with a guy trying to call Morsy on twitter and my mate who knows this bit about the deal, was trying to tell the reds fan, it was not due to wages, he would be a reds player if he had kept to the plan (release clause). You may have the same info as me mate but I can pm you (sounds like you do)
We don't know that. Since he's left the club many people have bashed his character without any foundation what so ever. Being negative towards him based on gossip and unfounded rumours. Our board have been voiceless and Linton probably has a gagging order. Therefore whilst he might be to blame we are likely never going to find out and he's just going to be a scapegoat for a section of our fans to attack. We have two much more experienced board members in Watkins and Taylor. Could they have not used their wealth of experience over many decades to help him out with the transfer? Couldn't anyone above him at the club (if he lowered the original asking price for Morsy) say sorry Wigan, Linton got it wrong, we are still offering the original price? Or was Linton 100% in charge, couldn't be overuled and when it came to it just let him try and save us money getting Morsy in on the cheap?
I think it's very important that we blame someone with no real decision making powers while totally absolving an autocrat.
