This loan move was exactly what he needed. He looked promising in patches before his injury. He's just getting back up to speed now and started scoring in a pretty poor Shrewsbury team. Hopefully he scores a few more this season and helps them avoid relegation. Was a huge step up for the lad. Look at Bogle at Wigan who cost a million quid stepping up from L2. He scored a couple of goals then went 12 games or something without scoring. Need a bit of patience with him.
Agreed. Bogles only played 12 games (11 starts) in total for Wigan scoring 3 goals mainly as a lone striker. Averaging a goal every three games with the exact mins he's played.
I hope he does. Armstrong won't be here next season, and Hecky doesn't fancy Watkins to play there, even when he's scored the previous week. Hecky has tried all kinds of pairings this season and never really settled on anything. Payne and Bradshaw? Who knows. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
I might have raised this point before, but what does this mean then for Payne, Kayden Jackson, & Shaun Tuton ? I doubt if the latter two will get anymore first team action (in fact, did Jackson ever get a first team game), and Im only guessing at the moment but I bet Hedges will be the same in the long run. I understand the need for player fitness and sending them out on loan is better than seeing them scrape by in the reserves. But what are we going to gain as a Champship club by sending them out on loan to Lg Two clubs ?
Many of our current crop of players have come from league two, so it's as good a place as any to get games for me. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Lone striker out of the 3 goals one was a pen and one a free kick (yes I know they all count) but that makes it one in 12 from open play the jury is still out wether he was worth a million wouldn't like to think we had paid 1million for someone with half a good season in league 2.
When we send players out on loan the majority of the time they have no future with us. I like Stefan Payne and thought he offered us something different in game and was unlucky to get injured. But it's tough thinking of names of guys we've sent out on loan who have come back as a first team regular or even as a part time contributer. It's pretty much usually a bad sign for us to send someone elsewhere for games. Maybe he will buck the trend.
When they re-join us though, I still dont think they are up to speed for this level. Yes it was a big step up for Payne (was he at Dover in the Conference ?), and he was unlucky with the injury. This might be the chance he needs with only Bradshaw looking like our main goal threat at the moment, for next season.
I thing Payne will be ok. I've seen every minute he's played, and I think he was very unlucky to get injured when he did. As much as people keep saying he's not good enough, he came on against Rotherham to generous applause from our lot, so must have been doing something right in the limited time he'd had on the pitch. He came on against Northampton and rattled the cross bar with virtually his first touch. Hit the post against Huddersfield, and had a hand in Scowens goal against QPR. Bradshaw on the other hand goes for full games without a shot, or even a sight of goal. Considering one scored 20 goals in league one, and the other non league, it's fine margins, and I dare say that if Payne had kept injury free and had as many opportunities as the others, he would have had a few goals and assists. I like Stefan Payne and hopes he gets the chance in summer. Unfortunately, I think we've seen the back of him.
Suppose it depends on what we do in the summer. We're crying out for some physicality up front as things stand. I don't think hecky thinks Watkins is an out and out striker, and Bradshaw works tirelessly but needs either a helping hand or better service. Armstrong will be off back to Newcastle and sent back out on loan no doubt. Very short in that department aren't we? Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
I have to agree about Bradshaw, hes not improved at all as this season has gone on. Remember how up for it he was away at his boyhood club Aston Villa, well why doesnt he have that similar sharpness against every team (and this applies to most players actually). And yes I agree its been hard on him with all the unnecessary changes that Hecky keeps making to the team and the formation etc. I also hope Payne gets another chance but as some have said the track record for players sent out on loan like he has been isnt good, not for them returning to our first team that is.
I agree with what you have said about payne in this thread mate and also agree about bradshaw who himself must be frustrated with Hecky's choping and changing scince January and playing him as a lone striker our priority in the summer should be replacing the players who leave and bringing in a striker partner for bradshaw.
Bogle has been woeful ask there fans. Averages about 5 offsides a game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
