Won't go over old ground again. But with Leeds crashing again today, and a CEO who knows Hecky's value? Holes appearing in the team in recent games, and that's before further departures. Rocky times ahead.

We are not capable of the necessary recruitment in this league and won't have the luxury of time to unearth and polish those rough diamond next. I see us recruiting and polishing next season for a promotion push in league one the following.

Sorry, we are the Rotherham next season.

I don't think he'd go there or Fowls for that matter. Norwich on the other hand...

Four times the wages? It's a harsh world out there and if you're a young man with a young family and you work in a very fickle and uncertain game....................

3 months is a long time in football. This summer's retention and recruitment is massive and will show the club's ambitions . We'll soon see .

Last summer we lost around 7/8 players after winning promotion. We rebuilt, maybe gambled in a few areas not quite knowing what was expected of us as a team. We've had a topsy turvey end to the season, perhaps we're at our level for the seasons end which for me is more than exceptable for our first season back in the big boys league.I think Paul and his staff will be more aware whats required next season and I'm sure his targets will reflect on that.

I am struggling to understand the remarks that are being posted on here this evening. We all know what happened in January and I think the views on that subject have been done to death. As for Hecky, we have always lost our best, and we always will, no matter how much everybody frets and agonises. I do not believe any of us expected to do as well post January sales as we did before, for obvious reasons, but at the moment, there are a few mitigating factors. The first of those is injuries. Our first eleven would include Andy Yiadom, Aidy White, Matty James and Adam Hammill. Marc Roberts left the game at half time and that problem was exacerbated because Adam Jackson was also injured, meaning a rookie left back had to play centre back and a rookier left back had to come in. Our defence had just one first choice defender to its name. Our midfield had no defensive minded player at all. Frankly, it is a wonder that we did as well as we did given the circumstances. Add to that mixture that we have nothing left to play for, whilst our opponents were still fighting for their place in the division and you have all the ingredients for a heavy defeat.

But that is not really what my point is all about. My point is about over-reaction. Earlier in the season, results went our way and the BBS was exceedingly quick and very fulsome in its praise of the team, the manager, the owner and everyone down to tea lady. That praise was mainly because the team was winning, because there were huge holes in that team's ability and pace that were ignored by the fans. As you know, I watch all of my football at Oakwell, where we have been undressed and had our bottoms spanked by Fulham, Reading, Brighton and Newcastle, and almost all of those games were played before January. There is no way that we were on a par with any of the afore mentioned, and yet many chose to ignore form and point to the table, which was only half complete. When these holes were pointed out, it was considered bad form, almost disrespectful and certainly unpatriotic. When we are winning the BBS brooks no criticism of the team. The scales have turned, and there are very good and well understood reasons for that turn. We are half way through the process of rebuilding a new team capable of really holding its own in the second tier, rather than holding its own because the team is over-achieving based upon its ability. But because we are half way through the process, and results are predictably poor, every poster now wants to stand in judgement, to find a scapegoat, to find someone to blame. Now I know that is football fans, and I know that I expect far too much, but it would be nice if just now and then we could think about a reasoned response to a set of circumstances, rather than simply searching for an a**e to kick.

Sadly it happens and that doesnt make it right I know, but fans of all clubs can be feckle like this and questions are going to be asked after such a poor run of results. Im sure Hecky himself understands this and knew it when he took the job on.
There is a bigger picture here though and this season has been a lot better than I expected it to be, and Ive thought on many occasions that loads of other struggling clubs would love to be in our position of safety. Thats the consolation I try to take as we make a very disappointing end to the season.

We were half way to building that team until January. Then sold our crown jewels. Not saying the club could do much about it but it reinforces in a cruel way the struggle we will have going forward. We found that very rare winning formula and team and it all clicked just over a year ago. In the summer we may well lose what remains and we will have to recruit from the same pool as every other team in this league, we won't have those polished diamonds. Yiadom is a polished diamond, can we keep him ? Roberts ? Watkins ? Scowen ? Once again or budget or lack of it will show. In reality we get the best of what every other side with the exception of Burton ... has rejected right at the end of the transfer window the plug holes. What upset me in Jan wasn't so much the loss of the players but the lack of replacements right when we had a fighting chance of something rare for Barnsley in this league, a shot of to 6. We the in the towel and the club effectively pissed away half my season ticket. Felt like this in Jan and nothing that has happened since is a surprise. Feel massively let down.

People have neglected to mention the injuries to our key player these last few games. Had we had Hammill, Yiadom James and Roberts (2nd half) on the pitch I am very confident we would've been talking about a win tonight. Instead they want to predict doom and gloom for next season. Is it so inconceivable that given that we didn't have our first choice full backs available, our talisman centre back injured, his replacement injured, an influential midfielder in James missing, that we narrowly lost a game of football to a big-spending team who were fighting for their Championship lives?

If only we were HALF way through the rebuilding process. If the club had had their finger on the pulse in January, we would now be grooming the core of next season's team.

First of all hey up Duk, dont see you around much anymore (on here or on TM).
That bugs me that whenever we do get somebody in its usually who the rest have ignored or thrown away. We chatted on here recently about why did Leeds not want Mowatt and why didnt anybody else get him before us. With the right coaching I think we're all crossing our fingers and hoping for better from him next season. I cant help but be excited at the idea of what he and Moncur just might do if they both hit the new season running.
So I'll be honest and say its not all gloom of course not, there are things to work on and look forward to. We must keep Hecky though even though I/we do also nitpick against him and I bet he'd be honest enough to say hes made managerial mistakes.

Hi Acido. I'll be honest I am cooling off on football in general. I don't think i can sit through more seasons like we have been through up until recently. In know these things come in cycles of success and failure and you have been around to see them over again and I respect that but Im not sure I can. I just can't seem to get excited anymore and it's a shame. I did look on TM but didn't see a thread i wanted to vent on lol and the format is bad particularly on mobiles, this site is a bit cleaner but I read both admittedly not as frequently anymore, my life and work these days doesn't leave me with so much time. I need to use what time i have improve my fitness and not worry so much about very fit footballers. Glad you are still upbeat. Football had a funny habit of proving you wrong and I really hope this is the case next season.

TM has lost some regulars for whatever reasons and thats a shame. The big FM shake up and change in board style did a lot to put fans off but I dont know if they like us talking about that on here.
This Bbs is the 'United' and Tykesmad is 'City'... ooohh big rivals :D

Next season will be tough, just like any Championship season for clubs with limited resources. I still have complete faith in Hecky to lead us to a position of stability though. And whilst you can never be comfortable or complacent, I don't have any sense of impending disaster, Rotherham style, although where we are after 46 matches next season would be a better time to judge the club, the manager, the team and where "the plan" is taking us.
