We had a good team. We sold all the best players and couldn't get Morsy. We replaced Morsy with James. We didn't bother replacing all the other players. We thought we would be ok. We aren't we are now a poor team. A good season has turned into a very average one. It's pretty straightforward really. Hecky escapes blame because it presumably wasn't his idea to flog all his best players and not replace them. Forgive me if I've missed owt. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
What do you want a manager to say in an interview that his employees are going to hear? 'No we are right in the ****. This lot are bloody useless'. That will do wonders for morale
I'm sure Hecky will admit to making errors himself, be that either recruitment related, tactics, selections or whatever. He's not beyond criticism by any means, but I just can't see how a reasonable judgement of him can be made so early in his management career, and even earlier in his limited experience of the Championship. Perhaps that's what I see at the moment - a guy doing pretty well, within financial constraints, with a team in transition either due to act or omission by club/agent/player (depending on your viewpoint). He is the public face of a business. It would be poor indeed and detrimental to moral to be critical of the resources provided to him in public. Privately is a different matter. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
I've opened presents at Christmas and pretended to be happy. Inside though, I've been disappointed. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
No manager would be happy with the January we had. Losing our playmaker, our leading goalscorer and a quality young full back, to teams in the same division. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We've had bad runs this season twice. With the three you mentioned and without those at the moment. Between September 17th and November 25th we picked up ONE win four Draws. In our last 11 games you guessed it we've picked up ONE Win 4 draws. I'm sure the PH apologist would love for people to say, yes well aren't the board b's for selling the players but some will look at the season and notice September October and November. The player type brought in the summer wasn't great. I was on that very early and it's become more prevalent as the seasons gone on. Game awareness, we had a full back at Wigan in the second half that couldn't make a tackle in case he miss-timed it and we would have been off. He should have been took off.
So we've had a couple of poor runs. Has it escaped your notice that most sides in this division do? We had I think it was either the second or third lowest budget in the division at the start of the season and half way through were comfortably top half. They cashed in. All sorts of reasons, we can moan, many have, but there's no point now. It ruined this season, but would we have made playoffs anyway? Looking at things objectively, i'd say no, not likely. So we will go into next season with c£10-15million more in the pot, and the budget will only be bottom ten rather than bottom three! Christ if we can get a top twelve budget we'd win the league... We haven't been terrible since January. We've played some decent stuff. No cutting edge though, plus since being safe there's been an obvious step down, they're on the beach subconsciously. No lack of trying, just a mental thing. It's natural, Brentford didn't exactly break their necks against us either. Played ok but it was hardly high intensity. Burton are just about safe, Newcastle should be up by the last game - though to be honest with the pressure off and unleashed I suspect the barcodes will make fun of us. Let's have some fun ourselves. Play some kids Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Or... Hecky out. We need a bigger name. Get zola and casiraghi in. What could go wrong? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Forgive me also, as I thought we signed Mowatt & Hedges in january to re bolster the squad, or did I dream it
Hedges is a development player probably to replace Watkins in the summer. Mowatt is not a central midfielder. So in short you didn't dream it just didn't understand what was happening. You don't replace your BMW with a kids trike with no wheels and expect it to perform to the same level. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
We know you 'was on that very early' in fact you've had an irrational dislike for Paul heckingbottom since day one as your vendetta has shown.
5 of the side we won the play off final with left the club in the summer along with the Chief Exec, we then lost 3 players for what's turned out to be virtually all season in Janko, White & Sessi. We were also all over the news for the wrong reasons & Hecky had to replace his number 2, Tommy Wright. Despite this we were somehow flying in January but then lost 4 key first team players in Hourihane, Winnall, Morsy & Bree as well as the new Chief Exec who still hasn't been replaced which meant we didn't bring a new striker in & had to play the second half of the season with a much weaker squad. We've had an owner diagnosed as terminally ill as well who's had to step down from football affairs meaning the boards down 2 people without Cryne & the Chief Exec. There are so many excuses for why Hecky could've thrown the towel in months ago but he's kept plugging away & done the best with the resources he has. I've seen recent games against Wednesday, Cardiff & Brentford where we should've won them all, best team & didn't take our chances. Should definitely have 6 more points from 3 games. Had more than our fair share of bad luck with refs as well. Denied early pens against Huddersfield & Brighton before they scored which would've completely changed the games. Denied by one of the worst refereeing decisions I've seen at Wigan the other week. Poor Marc Roberts wrongly sent off twice in home games. How did Bamba not get sent off against Cardiff? Everything that could've gone wrong this season has gone wrong & still we sit in mid-table. He ought to be up for manager of the year. The only people who can be questioned at the club this season are the board for January, players contracts & the Chief Exec situation. To have done what we've done with all the turmoil on the 2nd or 3rd lowest budget in the league is superb & it'll probably be harder next season with Rotherham & Wigan going down & clubs who will spend money in Sheff Utd & Bolton coming up.
