For the Barnsley fans who have Will such great support last season you might like to know that George won Player of the Year and also Player's Player of the Year at the MK Dons awards evening tonight
Great stuff. I guess we shouldn't be surprised really. I think he's held in high regard by most of us. And arguably scored one of our most important goals of last season v Peterborough. My own lasting memory of him was away at Bradford, playing left back against their decent right winger. 3 blocks in quick succession down near the corner flag to stop a cross coming in. Just sheer desire, no way was it coming past him. Deserves everything he can get out of the game. Sent from my SM-T710 using Tapatalk
Any chance you could get him in your car and drive him back up here please? I'll pay your petrol. Just tell him you're taking him to Disneyland or something, he'll never know
Brilliant that's great to hear. But he would never have got s game for us behind the ever present Aidy White
I think George was hard done to. He always seemed to give his all for the reds. No wonder he won players player, and player of the year. I'll always struggle with some of the decisions the club makes, but we have to trust in the decisions and support who's here right now! George could have been a very important squad player this season. But I think he'll become a cult hero at MK. Good luck George, I hope you stick there and become a fans favorite. You'll always be remembered by lots of reds fans.
So we've had the cost, both financial and in terms of supporter emotional trauma, of White, Kpekawa, Elder and Jones versus an extra few quid a week for George. Fcukin' hare-brained decision-making last summer and that's without the benefit of hindsight as we all knew it at the time. Rarely have we had such unity of view on here - most if not all of the pathological loons even were on board. Very happy for the lad that he's done well again at MK. Can only hope someone is learning lessons for this off-season. Reminds of the old saying, "a George Williams in the hand is worth four Callum Elders in the bush", (repeat ad infinitum for Roberts/Scowen/Watkins/Yiadom etc).
Well done George - I was sitting in my seat on Saturday watching those full backs, thinking if only I was Cher and I could turn back time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not surprised in the slightest. George was one of only a handful of players that I was confident of making the step up to the Championship. Still baffled to this day as to why we let him go. He was the very definition of what "the plan" was designed to do. Please pass on our good wishes, I hope he realises how much he was appreciated by the fans even if the club were very quick to get shut. And I'm not usually one to openly criticise the club Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
I'm made up for him. One of my favourite moments of last season was him going ******* mental after scoring v Peterborough. I'd have him back tomorrow, but only if he leaves that blazer in MK...
Great player wish him well. Would stroll into the team as it stands but don't doubt something more went on behind the scenes to let him go so easily. Sure he will make it at this level sooner or later. Ps one of my favourite ever signing on interviews when he said he'd play anywhere on the pitch for us even in goal! http://mobile.barnsleyfc.co.uk//news/article/ill-play-anywhere-for-reds-williams-2187183.aspx Good lad
Well done to the lad, hindsight is a wonderful thing however I can see why we let him go. (I would have kept him btw) Andy Yiadom and Aidy White meant he was not going to play unless injury came. AW being made of balsa wood and with a small squad that was always going to happen. GW would have done better than any of our loanees.
Good to hear and so pleased for him that going back to his home town club has worked out so well for him. If only both sides could have found a way to come to some kind of agreement last summer, resulting in him staying for a couple more years at least. I'd like to suggest that had he got into our first team early on this season he would have developed into a multi-million pound full back. If James Bree has reportedly gone to Villa for millions then George would have been in the same category. If anything he was better than Bree, in my opinion.
Delighted for the lad and if he plays against us one day he will get a very good hand from the crowd. Should never have been let go, but sadly management didn't see the ability pretty much all the fanbase could. Better full back than Elder and Jones and less injury prone than White and Bree.
Defo one of the poorer decisions made by the club. Superior to everyone who we have seen at LB this season, although I do rate Yids as a LB far far more than what is supposedly his preferred position at RB.
