I just want to say to people who expect us to have made half a dozen signings before the end of next week, that the next transfer window for English clubs does not open until early July, so a degree of patiance might be the order of the day.
What date do you consider it acceptable for people to question when signings will be made? Just so we know like.
For one, I dont know why you want to know what I find acceptable, thats my business. The reason I started the thread is because I myself thought the window started with immediate effect after this season finnished & was suprised to find that it doesnt open for the best part of two months, but I am sure that if activity is slow there will be a lot of moaning on here.
I'm not sure it makes much practical difference when the transfer window starts does it? We announced Yiadom well in advance of the actual transfer window opening last year. I'm sure the club will want to have deals sorted out on players before July so they can hit the ground running when theyre back from their holidays Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I thought it was common knowledge when the window opened. I just thought you were setting the boundaries for everyone's expectations on here.
I'm sure Hecky has said recently that he wants to have some signings in very quickly after the season finishes.
I never set boundaries for anyone & as for common knowledge regarding the transfer window, I bow to your wisdom I certainly did not know.
I think we're allowed to announce the signing of players from other clubs if they're out of contract this Summer, even though they would not officially become Barnsley players before July (eg. Yiadom, Payne & Kayden Jackson from last year). However, like you, I would also hope that our keenness to see a start to our recruitment is tempered with a little patience. From a personal point of view, I also hope we continue with our policy of bringing in players I know little, or nothing, about as we've done successfully in recent years. I'd certainly like to see us continue to sign lads like Davies, Hourihane, Winnall, Scowen, Mawson, Roberts, Watkins, Yiadom & MacDonald.
I would be surprised if we've not been identifying our targets and trying to tie up deals before the window opens. No doubt they'll be deciding on the futures of the seven players who have been out on loan as well.
i agree with you & I think one of the main factors to consider is, once the season is over, players , managers , agents etc are more than likely heading for a beach somewhere, & getting agreement on deals is not as straightforward as we would all like, coupled with the fact that everyones season does not end on the same day, with staggered league completion times, cup finals & play offs all stretching the football calender, whilst a lot of players edge their bets & wait for the best deals.
David Wagner said that all Huddersfield's signings last year were sorted by the end of May. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
Marc Roberts signed 26/5 Andy Yiadom signed 26/5 George Moncur signed 21/6 Marley Watkins signed 05/06 Stefan Payne signed 18/05 Conor Hourihane signed 23/6 Alfie Mawson signed 30/06 I think it's reasonable to expect a few signings before the 1st of July. We'd leave ourselves a lot to do, if we wait.
I believe all the players mentioned would have signed a pre season contract, you cannot offically sign outside of the window.
Gentlemens agreements.!! A former colleague of mine where I worked was Chief scout for one of the top Rugby League Clubs who have won the League and Challenge Cup times many. Long before signing of some of their top players who incidentally went on to play for GB he would have deals tied up and would swear us to secrecy. They would even come into our office to pick a bag with all their training gear in it during the dinner hour and we would get an introduction.!!! It's a risky game and everyone will deny it but as in Rugby there will be a "ways and means network" in soccer believe me. Agents do not turn the opportunity to make some brass down.
