Marley & Josh have been excellent signings for Barnsley, playing a huge part in our improvement & development and always giving 100% for the cause, even if they weren't at the top of their game. I'll miss them both and wish them well in their careers. We move on and I'm looking forward to seeing our new recruits this Summer.
We've lost better and whilst he's done alright for us he is replaceable. It's a shame when we give a player the best platform and wage they have ever had, but they want to leave first chance they get. Writing was on the wall in January.
It was a shame for Cally Thistle after they'd given him a platform and a good wage when we took him too. He's moving on to probably a higher platform but definitely a much higher wage. He hasn't screamed for a move or chucked his toys out of the pram like some, he's honoured his contract, given his best, and is now looking to maximise his next earnings as a free agent. Absolutely 100% fair and right to do so. If other clubs can pay him three times what we will offer why would he stay? If he lost form we'd be quick to drop him, loyalty stretches only so far. He goes with my best wishes and will get applauded on his return, I hope by all. As will Josh Scowen, plus Hourihane and bree, all have been complimentary of the club. Good luck Marley, thanks for your efforts. Hope you get your call up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good player. We will miss his energy and enthusiasm. The modern day Brendan O'connell analogy seems a good one though my mate describes him as the drinking man's Andy Liddell and I sorta know what he means. Onwards and indeed upwards
He only honoured his contract because we refused his transfer request when he wanted to leave our sinking ship instead of getting on with what he's paid to do. I get the point you're making but it's different as we are way up the football pyramid than ICT, but his next club probably won't be much different to us as it's likely to be another championship club. He's a one goal in six player, didn't consolodate a first 11 regular start and our head coach doesn't agree with him on his best position. His form was a number of players that dipped after Hourihane/Winnall left when it was their chance to shine and show we can be as good without them.
It is frustrating to see players leave, but why won't we stay up? We did this year & we will pay bigger wages to new players next season, it's going to be tough, i'll admit that, but to say we are already doomed seems harsh when we don't know the players the club will attract, i might agree with you 1st week in August when all is assembled, but not now..
It feels worse than being dumped by my first girlfriend. Good luck Marley part of the 15/16 legends .
He goes with my best wishes unless he joins one of the Sheffield clubs, Leeds or Huddersfield, that goes for Scowen too
Yes, agree with all of the above. He was part of our incredible journey but let's not get carried away. He came in, did a mostly good job but was sometimes no more than average. His loss is a long way behind the impact of losing CH and SW in January. I like Marley for his effort and for the occasional goals but let's not confer hero status on him. I wish him all the best and he goes with our thanks for all he did. Nice to hear his kind words as well.
We did this season. We're always going to be fighting a losing battle but we've found a structure that is successful for us and sustainable and at the moment it's the only way forward in all reality
On the crest of a wave with the "2nd season syndrome" to come and 2 wins from 17 since 31st Jan. I wouldn't put this season down as the marker, that teams been dismantled.
