Angus took the jump from the conference in his stride. Andy yiadom jumped from league 2 to the championship and got in the championship team of the year and mark roberts was playing in the Conference 2 years ago.
I don't think Mr Troutman thinks Mallan won't make the step up, he is merely stating facts, that it will be difficult for him to adjust early on, like it was for Angus and Andy. Let's hope he goes the same way as those 2. He'll be off in January if he does though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks a nice player. Can take players on and shoot if the youtube stuff is owt to go by. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Andy and angus didn't really have a slow start andy had a bad game v ipswich h but has consistantly been a regular performer ever scince hence why he has picked in the championship team of the year by who scored. And it's good to see us signing players early so they get a full pre season with their team mates.
As Hecky said......"now is the time for new heroes" ...and this lad looks like he could be one of those. Hopefully the signing of Stevie and others to come wIll go some way to persuading the downbeat glass half empty whinging moaning whiners on here to stfu.
He did. He had a year in League One though and came from their top tier which is probably League Two standard. What I meant was he could have had four months of cameo appearances then hit the ground running in August.
Fair points. We did seem to get obsessed with details in January without looking at the bigger picture. Still can't believe we let McGeehan escape due to a sell on clause. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Good signing and hopefully the first of several of this calibre. Good performance. Right age. Loads of potential to improve further. Get him in. £200k would be a giveaway.
The bloke who received the email now saying the deal isn't as cut and dry as it seems, not even at the medical stage yet. Is our incompetence going to let us down yet again? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks to be a skilful player. I don't want to be negative cos I'm sure our coaching/backroom staff have done their homework and think there's enough there to make him into a good Championship player . He's 21 and has only played 93 games in the second tier of Scottish football. There are ten teams in that league three of whom are part-timers. Add to that fact that after 36 games St Mirren ( Stevies team) finished 7th on 39 points so collectively his team didn't pull any trees up. When Alex Neill joined us we were told " he's going to set the Championship alight". At the end of season meeting a fan said " Alex Neil couldn't set a bonfire alight in Locke Park using a can of petrol", which at the time made us all laugh but I'm sure did nowt for the lads confidence and self esteem. To my mind we need to bed this kid in and give him chance to adjust to the increased pace and quality of Championship football and not put unnecessary pressure on him. I was impressed after the Fulham game how Scott Parker seemed to dominate their midfield. There are about twenty Premiership midfielders who are at the end of their contracts and some of whom could well drop down into our division so Stevie will be pitting his skills against some real quality players which he didn't come up against too often up north. I hope that with patience eventually we might have a rey't player on our hands.
One Paper North of the border reporting ( yesterday the 13th) . " It's Mall over. Fee agreed for midfielder." It said a fee has been agreed for midfielder Stevie Mallan to join EFL side Barnsley. Transfer incumbent on a medical after which he could sign within the next 72 hours. Fingers crossed he passes that and we get to see him in the new season.
The danger being that now this is well and truly in the open. Only be a matter of time (hopefully not) that some bugger else will come in and offer him more in wages. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
But you could equally argue having an extra half season in the Scottish Championship would be better than potentially being a bit part player for us
