So thats official is it, hes finally 'gone'. He should have been sent to the chair or have taken the injection years ago, he didnt deserve to live as long as what he did.

Disgusting the millions spent on him over the years that would have been better spent elsewhere. But do gooders don't like the idea of capital punishment brought back even for scum like him. Soon get rid of Ian Huntley, Sean Mercer, Will Cornick, Roy Whiting, Thomas Mair, Michael Adebolajo and many others that don't deserve to live.

Here in the real world, the cost of the death penalty far outweighs the cost of keeping a prisoner alive.
I really can't understand that. A rope tied tightly around his neck would cost only the price of the rope. Or am I missing something here?
Ok Ive heard that as well, the idea of letting him 'rot alive' for as long as possible. But NO I say when it was totally proved beyond a shadow of a doubt... he and Hindley should have suffered the worst possible death sentence.
That may be true of the United States but in the days of the death penalty in the UK it was a much shorter timeline. The execution of Derek Bentley, arguably the most controversial of the 1950's was only 48 days after sentencing. Sentenced on December 11th, the original execution date would have been January 13th but was delayed by his appeal and carried out on January 28th, despite attempted intervention by MPs and a huge public outcry.
However when you look at some of the miscarrages of justice over the years since we abolished the death penalty I think it outweighs having to put up with keeping the vile under lock and key . That Paratrooper found guilty by Court Marshall of murder could well have seen his last if the DP was still in force , and as for poor Stefan Kiszko a sad enditement of our criminal justice system if ever there was one
It would be a different story were it to come back into the UK. The main costs come about due to the initial trials. Better to have a thorough trial process than to execute people too soon. Even in the case of an admission, it doesn't always equal guilt. I guess that makes me a 'doo-gooder'. The following graph is for the sentencing of 13 people in California. I know it won't be exactly the same, but it wouldn't be far off in this day and age.
Ohh I know we've had some appalling cases of mis-justice in Britain, and they are why the DP will never be brought back. I would say people like Brady dont deserve to live and we as taxpayers shouldnt have to pay to keep them alive for no good reason. But think of people like Timothy John Evans & Derek Bentley, these poor men were on the 'wrong' end of the DP and once its done, it cant be taken back.
