No point as none would be 20 year olds from League Two. Except one - Liam Mandeville. Actually, I will say one signing I'd make that will be pilloried- I'd **** Townsend off and bring in Lee Camp on a free.
I'm happy with the policy as it is myself though we could add some experience in terms of games played rather years imo. Conor and Winnall though young when they joined us already had plenty of games under the belt. but it's an impossible question to ask without you knowing the budget. Morsy would be a good example of someone with experience in terms of games. Long I'm not convinced by given his lack of games he doesn't add experience. If we are just using age as a criteria then we have been linked to Conor McLaughlin he's a nice player and about 26. Aaron Pearce I like as a player and he must be passed the criteria by now. If or budget were bigger then of course Matty James, or Huddersfield's full back Smith. I know he's retiring but Kermogant has been very impressive this season. Again out of range but Gareth McLeary is a fantastic player. Our model suits us and is the way forward but I can see the value of experience especially in terms of games played. Are you referring to Kevin Long mate? We won't be getting him I don't think he's been getting into Burnley's team and has now been called up to Ireland's squad
Yeah we should stop signing players with only league Two experience who are young. It's not like Hourihane, Winnall or Scowen had any success for us And regardless, looking at McLaughlin: he's got a bit more experience and is older so if you're looking for a complement there's an example
He's also played 20 games for Burnley in 7 years. Money for old rope I know but he must be thinking of a change. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Apparently Harry Wilson is superb. Asked a Liverpool fan/journalist about him and she said she expects him to be in and around their first team next season so was surprised when I said we'd been linked with him.
But sadly the club seem to have fans buying into the myth that players of a certain age aren't good enough. We've had a lot of bad signings from the lower leagues in just the past two seasons. It was good 2-3 years ago with those you mention and Roberts. But the well of decent cheap signing has been drying up for some time. We shouldn't not go for a player because of their age. Southampton sold a 33 year older defender to West Ham for 10 million, which shows you can get a good resale value on a player at any age.
Huh? It was just last year we signed McDonald and Yiadom!!! It's never an exact science. It's about our fans wanting us to be successful. Which means increasing our revenue streams. Buy cheap sell for more. Two markets dominate for this. Lower league players moving up, or young players moving down. It isn't about not signing "older" players. If the right player was available, at affordable wages, then we would sign them. If Hecky wants them. Personally think an experienced forward would be an asset to the team. But not at extortionate wages. It's a difficult balancing act. But one I trust the club to get right.
Just to clarify, when I say experienced players, I mean games played competitively at Championship/League 1 level rather than age, obviously we could do without signing players coming towards the end of their careers. Regards our current policy buying young players and selling them on, it works at league 1 level, but the Championship is a whole different ball game as we saw under Keith Hills stewardship, players clearly not good enough were left exposed week in week out. It's a nasty cycle to find ourselves in. Much like Rotherham this season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saw a rumour on Twitter linking us to Sullay Kaikai of Crystal Palace, had 2 great loan spells with Shrewsbury and then spent last season at Brentford on loan but only made 6 starts. Not sure how true the link is though
no I dont, when are you going to realise & the penny finally drop, we do not have the finance to buy the quality finnished article you expect. Please just trust Hecky.
Are you saying that we can't afford any players with decent experience and all we can do is sign young lads with a dozen games in League Two? Might as well pack in now. I trust Hecky. It's the ones above I'm less convinced about.
