Worth a look for next season? Sunny fans seem to think he's done well on loan there and he's scored a few during his loan. I'm in two minds...thought he was fairly decent in his first loan spell then bang average in his second. Given the shortage of strikers out there could see this being one we might pursue.
Bang average the 2nd time around. Still think he's got a fair bit of time left on his contract at Newcastle and they spent a few bob on him iirc. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
i think he his worth a punt. He never got that much game time when he was with us, however, in my opinion he showed potential & has played well for Scunthorpe, surely he is only going to get better.
I'd like to see us go in for him. Think he has all the attributes to be a top striker at this level and you've got to remember he is only 21. He wasn't really given a run of games last time either.
Saw absolutely nothing during his time with us that made me think he would be a worthwhile signing. Sent from my iPhone using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
A young lad with potential to develop sounds ideal to me if he were available cheaply. Showed more than Armstrong did imo.
With respect Newcastle signed him from Northampton in 2015. He played in the first team twice and then has been farmed out on loan to us, Shrewsbury and Scunny ever since. Like Armstrong and another Magpie we had Michael Chopra they can do it in League One or in Chopra's case the Championship but in fairness they are not Premiership quality players. My opinion having seen him a few times is that at best Ivan is of League One quality. He could play in the Championship but in all probability would not score many goals so why sign him.?
Not for me. He looked decent in the first loan spell, quite handy. Second spell he never looked like scoring for me. Too busy battling defenders and getting into unnecessary physical duels. He's young and very enthusiastic, but I don't see him having the quality to score at this level. I watched the Millwall Scunthorpe games last week and he put himself about a lot, led the line quite well but again, always wrestling with defenders. He seemed to either foul or get fouled evry five minutes and was close to a red card in the first game. Tapped home in the second leg but very little goal threat other than that. I think we need better in this league.
I said this as well in a recent thread where his name was mentioned, I dont think hes good enough so lets hope we dont bother.
I'm not his biggest fan! However I do think there's a place for him in our team he's was fairly strong and quick for a young player and his link up play was ok! On a 3 year deal I think he would develop nicely and be handy option on the bench
It was marginal though. Toney was bone idle as well just not quite as idle as Armstrong. If he wasnt a Newcastle player he would be considered a nobody
