It's supremely arrogant to suggest that only Corbyn supporters are clever enough to think for themselves.
I think the press as a whole have a greater influence than ever before myself. The soundbite culture where meaningless slogans like 'strong and stable' are repeated endlessly and a unquestioning press swallows them and passes them to people without question. The cleverness and thoroughness of the hatchet job on Corbyn is pretty disgusting wherever you stand politically.
But there will be a lot of people who say exactly the same about Corbyn and they're the people who he needs to convince.
They still have Maybe but wow, she is just awful. Robotic, totally devoid of any human emotion. I could not stand the **** but you could see Cameron was at least an half decent operator and a decent public speaker. The slippery *******.
I have 'strong and stable' imprinted on my brain but it is imprinted alongside 'for the many not the few'. They don't influence me whatsoever and they will be forgotten when this election is all over. From what I have read recently the press have been laying into May quite a lot. I listen to LBC a lot and they're very balanced and fair. Maybe it's because I'm one of the 'to be convinced' demographic that I just don't see this alleged bias.
I agree completely that public speaking is not her strong point, she certainly doesn't have the polish that Cameron had.
I'm not implying everyone that supports May (or other parties) can't think for themselves, far from it. I understand that it's in some people's interests to vote Conservative and everyone that does will have their reasons. I just get the feeling that a lot of working/lower-middle class people who would vote for May would be doing so without actually looking at the positives and negatives of voting for each candidate. All they'll see is "strong and stable™", a media headline denouncing Corbyn for not looking as smart/well dressed as some other politicians and not even think about looking at the manifestos. Turkeys voting for Christmas, basically. And that frustrates and saddens me.
I do not want to be offensive to some people and I certainly don't believe that Tory voters are somehow stupider etc but you are an intelligent bloke with a decent job and a sound grasp of politics. A lot of voters are not. LBC does well as does Sky News. The bias throughout the rest of the press is unbelievable. The missis dad a died in the wool Tunbridge Wells Tory said to me the other day that it demeaned and cheapened politics to be so one sided rather than neutrally presenting facts. He will still vote conservative but even he's sick of it. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
I can't stand watching her, the way she arrogantly shakes her head with a stupid smirk really, really winds me up. Just imagining her sitting around the EU leaders doing that every time they speak terrifies me.
Fair enough, l think there is some truth in this but I also think that, to a lesser degree, the same is true of some Labour supporters. Some people will vote for a particular party regardless of policy. In an ideal world everybody would read the parties manifestos before making their minds up.
And all you Socialist supporting idiots will vote for a party with a leader that supports Hezbollah, the IRA, is a holocaust denier and has as his lieutenants a racist, a comrade that can't count, a communist, McDonnel plus another looney called Rayner. No place for people of integrity like Cooper, Jarvis or Milleband, and your party will die as a result - you brainless ones.
What has to be remembered is that we have a free press in this country and long may that continue so I wouldn't expect newspapers like the Mail or Telegraph to unconditionally support Corbyn nor would I expect The Guardian to do the same towards the Tories. With the advent of social media I think people read a much broader spectrum of news and opinion than they ever have previously and the days of The Sun influencing the 'average voter' have been consigned to history.
Supporting the IRA by trying to engage them in discussion to bring an end to the troubles, as opposed to the Conservative councillor who was an active member of the IRA at the time? Or Thatcher who would not speak to terrorists, except she was on the quiet. The history of Ireland is a long shameful one from our side. How many did the government allow to starve while taking food from Ireland to feed the British during the potato famine?
I don't know if anyone saw "The Last Leg" on Friday. Apparently, broadcast media is bound by rules to be neutral but the print press isn't and it has been heavily against Labour during this election campaign.
